Sole win was in a 1m Haydock maiden (heavy) last year, though has been competitive from marks of 77 and 78 in handicaps since then without winning. Back down in trip from a decent effort over 1m4f last time but looks up against it at the weights.

All his wins have been on good to firm, which is a good starting point here, while he is versatile in terms of trip (7f-1m2f). Now 1lb lower than his last win at Redcar in August and looks capable of going very close.

Has not been able to add to the Ascot maiden (6f, good to firm) that he recorded two years ago for Richard Hannon and after a series of frustrating placed efforts and a slide in the weights he now makes his debut for this yard. Is on a career low mark and stepped up to a trip that is within range, so a market check is advised.

Sole win in 18 starts was in a Sandown maiden (7f, good to firm) about a year ago. Has put in some creditable efforts at up to 1m since then but was well beaten from this mark on his reappearance/stable debut last time and from a terrible draw he looks best watched.

His two wins have been from marks of 75 and 76 over 1m1½f and 1m2f. Acts on fast ground, but looks like a horse who struggles when put up any further in the weights and as he is 2lb higher than his best win here it might still be just too much to ask.

Scored over C&D this time last year (good to soft) from a 1lb higher mark. Largely been in the wilderness since then, but now back on this handicap mark, the booking of Paul Hanagan may be significant. Acts on fast ground and looks well worth a market check.

Has made steady progress for a couple of years now and put up a career best to win from a mark of 75 at Hamilton last month (1m½f, good to firm). Didn't cope with rise in grade last time from this mark, but of more interest now back at this level. Main concern today looks to be his draw.

Yet to add to his Sandown debut win from 2015 (7f, good) and still has to prove himself over quite as far as this, as his 1m2f runs have suggested that he doesn't get that far. Certainly now on a workable mark and with this pilot booked on board for the first time, market confidence would make him very interesting.

Sole win came on fast ground over 7f at Newbury last July and he remains 3lb higher than that. Made a decent debut for this yard on his reappearance at Wetherby last time (1m, soft) and is interesting now stepped up to this trip for the first time. Could go well at a price.

Proved he gets at least this far when scoring over 1m2f (good to firm) at Ayr last month, before a 10lb rise and a significant step up in class accounted for him last time. Nonetheless, that was another very good effort and he is clearly going the right way, so he could get competitive from another 1lb higher.

Sees out further than this and acts on good to firm, while he races here from a mark that he was runner-up from last time at Pontefract (1m, good). This is stronger and he will need to raise the bar to be filling that berth again.

Sole win was over 7½f (good) at Chester in maiden company a year ago and she has proved that she can be very competitive from this mark on more than one occasion since then. Now back over a more appropriate trip than last time and from a good draw, she could again have a big say.

Won a 7f Musselburgh handicap (good to firm) 13 months ago but now on a lengthy losing run. From a mark 3lb lower than that success she is lurking dangerously, especially now tried over this far for the first time. Pedigree suggests that she can handle that and a market check is advised to gauge confidence in a return to form.

All seven of her wins have been over 7f-1m, the only one on turf being on good to firm. 3lb higher than when scoring at Newcastle last time out, she is not certain to get this extra furlong and her profile suggests that this may be a step too far.

Won a Salisbury maiden (6f, good to soft) 13 months ago, but that is his only success from 17 attempts. Was competitive from 8lb higher than this at Epsom in September and although recent runs don't look red hot on paper, with his claimer up he has his best chance for a while of making an impact. Dam won over 1m2f.

Very much on the slide at the moment and was well behind Ingleby Angel in defeat at Haydock last time. Does at least have a win at this trip to his name, but otherwise not may positives to draw upon at present.

Up 3lb for winning at Beverley last time. Has plenty of miles on the clock, is thoroughly exposed and it would be some surprise if he were able to cut the mustard in this grade and at this trip.

Another last-time Beverley winner (1m½f, good to soft) who has gone up 3lb as a result. Also acts on fast ground, though best of his form is on slower and may also find this company just a little too warm.

Nine career wins from 1m-1m4f, the most recent being over 1m at Leicester (good to soft) last month from a mark of 67. 2lb higher today but thrashed from just 1lb higher than this one his last three starts. Would like a bit of rain to help his cause and has run well here in defeat before, so couldn't be ruled out if on a going day.

Verdict

SHAMAHEART ticks plenty of the right boxes here, having the ground he loves and the ability to be versatile in terms of how this race is run. He is also on a dangerous mark and he might just be capable of overcoming what is not the best of draws. Woody Bay is also very interesting now back on this mark and could again be involved and another on a mark that raises eyebrows is Madrinho. Dark Intention and Quick N Quirky also make appeal, while those wanting to play at bigger odds have a player here in Hitman.
  1. Shamaheart
  2. Woody Bay
  3. Dark Intention
