Ran well to be second on the AW at Wolverhampton in April, but two subsequent starts over hurdles have been disappointing. Back to the Flat and turf, he has a few questions to answer.
Strong stayer who is 2lb lower than his last winning mark. Returned from a lengthy lay-off to be sixth of 10 at Nottingham last month and needs to step up on that to be competitive.
Ran on strongly to be second at Chelmsford two starts ago, and found the distance too short at Lingfield last time. This longer trip should be more suitable and his only win on turf came at this track just over 12 months ago. Leading contender.
Won at Chepstow in May and two subsequent runs have shown he remains in good form. Stays this trip well, is feasibly handicapped and looks a major player with positive jockey booking.
Has run 22 times without success, three of them for his current yard. Shaped well at Chelmsford a couple of starts ago, but subsequent effort at Newbury was not quite so good. Lack of wins a cause for concern, but has a squeak.
Won the last of six starts for Eve Johnson-Houghhton and ran well on his second outing for his current stable when runner-up to progressive stable companion Coeur De LIon at Nottingham. Runs off 1lb higher here and has an obvious chance.
First run for seven months when beating Akavit at Bath in April. He is 2lb better off here following his rival's rise in the weights and, having been given a breather since that last win, should be fresh and well in his bid to follow up.
Beaten in a Fontwell handicap hurdle when last seen, but had previously been on an upward curve on the Flat for this stable, winning on the AW at Lingfield at the beginning of last month. Back on turf and off a higher mark, he has obstacles to overcome, but cannot be discounted.
Forecasts
Akavit (7/4), Mccools Gold (7/2), Bamako Du Chatelet (13/2), Daghash (7/1), Night Generation (8/1), Bridey's Lettuce (10/1), Danglydontask (14/1), Ruler Of The Nile (25/1)
Akavit has been in good heart of late, but has it all to do on the book with Danglydontask on Bath running in April. Both are respected, along with Night Generation and Bamako Du Chatelet, who should be suited by this return to a stamina test, but preference is for MCCOOLS GOLD, who ran well against a progressive stable companion last time and has a clear chance off only 1lb higher.
- Mccools Gold
- Bamako Du Chatelet
- Danglydontask
