Both wins have been over this trip on the AW at Dundalk, the latter from 11lb higher, though it was in 2015. Was off for about a year and made no impression in three starts for Richard Fahey, before switching to current yard, for whom she has her first run tonight. Likely to need it.

4lb higher here than when scoring at Newcastle in January (5f) and likes that venue, having won two on the AW plus one on turf there. Hasn't yet been as effective in two attempts here, though of more concern today are both her draw and the task that she has been set by the handicapper.

Back on the same mark as when she last won in a fast ground Haydock handicap (5f) last August. Has been competitive from higher berths a few times since and should be spot on for this after a couple of recent runs, so looks likely to be a leading contender.

Has won 2-7, both on fast ground and over this trip. 4lb higher than the second of those, which was her most recent run at Windsor in October and has since left Ed McMahon for this yard. No reason why she can't improve again and went well when fresh last season (beaten a neck into second) so market should be informative.

Successful twice in her 34 starts and just once on turf in a 6f Catterick maiden in 2015. Majority of runs have been over further than this and no obvious reason why she will benefit from the drop back to the minimum, especially racing from 4lb wrong.

Won a Musselburgh maiden auction contest last year and got competitive from today's mark at Brighton last month, although didn't get into it at Ripon last time. Trip and ground suit and she does have a decent draw, so she can't be ruled out. Market check advised.

Made the frame on three occasions for Tim Easterby and made an immediate impact for this yard at Yarmouth last week winning a 5f maiden decisively (good to firm). Handicapper has not altered her mark for this return to handicap company and she may now be able to do better than her only previous attempt. Claims.

Went close to winning at Musselburgh in September (5f, good) from 4lb lower, but both times she has raced from around this mark she has been unable to make an impression. Goes from 1lb out of the handicap and not got the best of draws. Others make more appeal.

Forecasts

Ocelot (5/2), Yorkshiredebut (9/2), Poppy In The Wind (9/2), Penny Dreadful (11/2), Rose Eclair (13/2), Broadhaven Honey (10/1), Swirral Edge (10/1), My Cherry Blossom (14/1), Birdcage (40/1)

Verdict

There was plenty to like about how Ocelot dispatched what was admittedly a mediocre Yarmouth maiden field last time, but now that she has got that win under her belt she may be capable of going on from what is a workable handicap mark. However, preference is for ROSE ECLAIR, who is on a winning mark, and should be cherry ripe after a couple of recent runs, Swirral Edge can get competitive and the same applies to Yorkshiredebut and Broadhaven Honey.
  1. Rose Eclair
  2. Ocelot
  3. Swirral Edge
