Up 8lb for a win on handicap debut at Redcar last time. That could be tough to overcome, but she is clearly talented and progressive and should go well once again.

Didn't handle a big step up in class last time and so has his sights lowered back down to a more suitable level here. 7lb higher back on turf than for that all-weather race last time but should still go well.

Won well despite showing signs of greenness on debut at Newcastle in February. Clearly the least exposed on his handicap mark and could well be the one to beat depending on how much he comes on for that first run.

Runs for the first time this season as a first-time gelding. Despite his only win to date coming in an auction race he has also gone close on a few other occasions, and he seems generally ground versatile.

Lost his way somewhat since a handicap win at Chepstow in September, and remains on a 6lb higher mark here. Has shown a preference for some give in the ground as well, and would rate a surprise winner of this.

Beaten favourite when dropped to this trip at Lingfield last time for a maiden, but still ran in an encouraging fashion. More would be needed here but he's now 5lb lower than at the time of his most recent handicap appearance and back at a trip that may suit him better.

Good run of form came to an end at Windsor last time out but was progressive before that. May have found his handicap limit now but clearly possesses more talent than some others in this field.

Forecasts

Carlton Frankie (6/4), Batten The Hatches (3/1), Boundsy (5/1), Arzaak (6/1), Fantasy Keeper (8/1), Dashing Poet (16/1), Compton Lane (20/1), Bellevarde (20/1)

Verdict

It may be worth taking a chance on BATTEN THE HATCHES here. Though he has only a maiden win to his name he won that race in good style and the fact that he ran green for some of that race shows that there could be further improvement to come, especially over this shorter trip. Two other lightly-raced types are taken to give him most to think about, namely the progressive Carlton Frankie and Fantasy Keeper, who may fare better than in maidens now switched to handicaps off a light weight.
  1. Batten The Hatches
  2. Carlton Frankie
  3. Fantasy Keeper
