Proved expensive to follow last season and looked vulnerable in a finish. Makes debut for new yard over a mile as trainer tries to succeed where Ralph Beckett failed.
Shed his maiden tag over 9.5f under today's rider at Wolverhampton in February. Had a lot of use made of him next time and faded in the closing stages. Handicap mark looks right and has an important fitness advantage.
Looked green as a juvenile but appears to have wintered well judged on a more distinguished effort last time in a Wolverhampton maiden. Finished well that day when ridden to get the trip. Will be more forward now and has the benefit of a recent run. Handicapper appears to have got her mark just about right and it all depends now on whether she has improved.
Came to hand early last season and was runner-up on his first five starts. Finally broke his duck at Brighton before finishing in the ruck of a big field for a valuable race at Newmarket. There were few signs of improvement throughout the campaign and he needs to have found something extra during the winter to score off this mark.
Showed a good turn of foot to score on debut at Kempton. The runner-up is nothing special but the third looked useful when winning next time. Could be better than this handicap mark suggests with further improvement likely.
Best efforts on first two starts but looked to be going the wrong way by the end of the season. Tried in hood and tongue-tie so possibly not that straightforward.
Has not really developed since finishing third behind a stable companion at Newbury. Handicapper appears to have set his mark about right and others make more appeal.
Did better when sent handicapping last season. Ran well to go down to a well handicapped horse at Kempton before encountering trouble in running when fourth here next time. Unsuited by softer ground on last start and more than capable of winning from this mark.
Yard won a division of this last year with a horse that had an identical profile. Same rider has been booked and that suggests he is more interesting than the form book would have you believe. Yard 3-9 with their jumpers in the last two weeks.
Handicap mark looks right based on his achievements to date. Two best efforts came on slower ground than is forecast here.
Winner off this mark over 6f at Lingfield last summer.Struggled subsequently and tackles a new distance here. Bred to get this far but yard's runners have looked in need of a run.
Benefited from a canny ride by today's pilot when landing a weak looking event at Kempton. Has more to do off a 6lb higher mark but yard have a good record at this fixture and landed a division of this twelve months ago. Yard are 2-8 in the past fortnight, both ridden by this jockey.
Has shown little in all starts including when only beating one rival home on handicap debut. Hard to recommend with yard yet to get going.
Forecasts
Sir Plato (7/2), Broad Appeal (6/1), Kassandra (8/1), Mr Scaff (9/1), Things Happen (9/1), Golden Guest (10/1), Bayston Hill (11/1), Singing Sands (12/1), Golden Eye (12/1), Sakurajima (16/1), Whiteley (16/1), Exspectation (16/1), Lemon Drop (50/1)
This looks very open from a number of angles. The stables that sent out the winners of both winners last season are represented here. Mr Scaff comes from a yard that have been doing well with their jumpers recently. Three runs to date have proven little but their winner last year had an equally unattractive profile and the same rider has been secured. A market move for him would be significant. Rod Millman saddles Sir Plato who dictated a muddling pace when scoring last time. This looks more competitive but the yard have been doing well lately and today's jockey has been a positive booking in that period. Golden Guest can win off this mark but it may be prudent to wait for the stable to show signs of form. BROAD APPEAL won what appeared to be a poor Kempton maiden. A subsequent impressive win by the third casts a different light on the form now and it would be no surprise to Jonathan Portman's charge land this too. Kassandra on her handicap debut for an in form yard and Wolverhampton winner Things Happen are others to consider.
- Broad Appeal
- Mr Scaff
- Sir Plato
