A cheap purchase who more than paid his way with four wins on Turf last season. His form tailed off towards the back end of the campaign, though, and from a 3lb higher mark than for his last success, he starts the new season on a stiff looking rating.
Bred to be effective on an AW surface, he adapted well during a brief campaign last year - winning two of his four starts. He was never a factor when highly tried in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket when he was last seen out, and is better judged on the form of his gritty effort when winning at Newcastle on his penultimate start. That form is working out well and repeat dose would be good enough to see him involved in the shake up here.
Justified favouritism at Lingfield last time out but now steps up in trip and has a 4lb higher mark to contend with this time around. Respected but needs to dig a little deeper than he has before.
Gelded before making a winning debut (in spite of losing a shoe) in February and has bags of scope for improvement. The jockey currently has a 22% strike rate and, having got a great tune out of him last time out, the portents look solid for another bold attempt.
Form tailed off towards the end of last season and it remains to be seen if he has trained on. The fitting of blinkers suggests all may not be straightforward. One to just monitor for the time being.
Bred to be very effective on the AW surfaces and has shown plenty of zest for racing by winning two of her three starts to date - showing a grim determination when blitzing the field in a fillies only novices stakes last time out. More on her plate back against the boys but this will give her connections a good gauge of where they are at with her; and she can only go on from here.
Still a maiden after five starts and may find one or two these are too hot to handle for her just now. Also has a bit to prove dropping back to this trip for the first time since her racecourse debut back in August of last year.
Forecasts
Hyperfocus (7/4), Family Fortunes (5/2), Juan Horsepower (9/2), Ventura Blues (5/1), Berkshire Boy (8/1), Sayesse (25/1), Captain Sue (25/1)
The ease in grade for HYPERFOCUS is a significant factor and the son of Intense Focus has a sound chance of kicking off the new season with a further success. Family Fortunes has scope for improvement and will make life hard if he has thrived since he was last seen out. The market may be the most reliable indicator towards which of Richard Hannon's duo is the most forward at this stage. Juan Horsepower has a bit of improvement to find, so there may be more value in looking at the tough filly Ventura Blues as the best alternative.
- Hyperfocus
- Ventura Blues
- Family Fortunes
