Been a reliable performer over the years but spent last season in the handicapping wilderness due to a very stiff rating. The stable has other options and he faces a tough test on his AW debut, even though his rider's claim eases the burden. Will need to post a mammoth effort if he is going to head on to fulfil his entry at Doncaster for the big one next next month.

Best with some cut in the ground on Turf and didn't really impress on his only previous visit to this track. Not seen since finishing last in a tough handicap at Ascot last October so also likely to need the run.

Form has dipped since winning from a 5lb lower mark at Newcastle last December. This looks likely to stretch him to the limit from his current rating; others preferred.

Fared better than his finishing position would suggest on his recent reappearance and should appreciate the step up in trip; needs to prove his effectiveness on the surface, though. Also still high in the weights even though his just 1lb above his last wining mark.

Made good progress for his shrewd handler during the winter; shot up the ratings, from a mark of 76 to what is now a career high of 96, as a result. Won over 1m at this course back in December but has been found out in a higher grade on a couple of occasions since.

Held behind Holiday magic at Newcastle in January and has a bit to find on a literal reading of that form. Responded well to racing in a hood combined with a tongue tie last time out, and interesting to note the ensemble is applied again today. Likes the course so worthy of consideration if the market vibes are positive.

Showed plenty of ability as a juvenile but has endured training set-backs since then. Showed very little on his debut for his new yard over hurdles at Newcastle last month and now has something to prove.

Suited by the hustle and bustle of a large field on Turf but has yet to run to the same level on the AW. On a handy mark in comparison to his Turf rating but his ability to handle the surface is more of a concern than that of his long losing run, which stretches back for almost two years. Historically, his yard had a good record in this race from the days when Richard Hannon snr was the license holder; so one to bear in mind if the market hints at a bold effort being anticipated.

Weighted to reverse recent form with Holiday Magic despite being set to race from a 4lb higher mark than when winning over 7f at this course last time out. He has thrived since joining his current yard and, as he is open to improvement over the trip, he is one to keep on the right side. Shortlisted.

There may have been something amiss when he finished behind a few of these at Chelmsford earlier on in the AW campaign, so is better judged after on his effort in wining a modest race over 10f at Kempton last time out. He needs to step things up another notch but his stable is flying again just now and, as they always have to be feared when they keep one busy, this fellow will be dangerous to leave out of the equation.

Often makes life hard for himself with a slow start, so needs luck on his side, given his style of running. His stable has recent secured the extended services of one of the top jockeys, and his ability to read a race will be an invaluable tool. The partnership face a stiff test on this occasion, though.

A consistent type; finally ended a long losing sequence last summer but failed to add to that during a short AW campaign afterwards. Today's pilot knows his idiosyncrasies well though, which bolsters his claims as a lively outsider that is capable of going close if things pan out to suit.

Highly experienced campaigner on the AW but most of his wins have come at a level below the standard required today. Respected but may find this company a touch hotter than he truly copes with.

Forecasts

Nimr (3/1), Supersta (11/2), Examiner (13/2), Holiday Magic (15/2), Baraweez (8/1), Abareeq (10/1), Steel Train (11/1), Pactolus (16/1), Forceful Appeal (22/1), Emell (22/1), Top Notch Tonto (25/1), Dream Walker (66/1), Parish Boy (80/1)

Verdict

This is likely to be run at a good tempo, which will play to the strengths of NIMR, who has thrived since joining his current yard is certainly going the right way. Holiday Magic is closely matched with the selection and would be dangerous to rule out, while Examiner also appeals as one that can close close at more attractive odds. Abareeq needs to step things up a gear but represents an in-from yard, so also merits respect in a wide open renewal.
