Rated in the mid 80's in his younger days but his only win since 2013 came in a lowly Redcar seller. Ended last season with two dismal runs and only marginal signs of improvement on his reappearance at Wolverhampton last month. May do better now.
Remains a maiden from 11 starts, though would probably have gone close but for meeting trouble-in-running over 1m here in November from a 2lb higher mark. A hood is introduced today as he steps up in trip and it's not hard to envisage a big run.
Some encouragement in maidens but form in handicaps is less encouraging, though he has been dropped 4lb for a moderate reappearance at Kempton. Even so, it's likely his mark is going to have to drop further before he opens his account.
Twice a winner on turf but his AW record reads no victories from 11 attempts and he regressed markedly for a switch of yards last year. No obvious reason to expect an immediate turnaround in fortunes for another new stable today.
Nine times a scorer on turf but just the one victory from 27 AW starts and hasn't looked like adding to that tally of late, admittedly holding little chance in a classified stakes last time. This more realistic as he makes a 100th appearance.
Strike-rate of just two wins from 56 points to a patchy profile, though he did have enough about him to win a seller over C&D in October - his only appearance on this track. That said, well-held in two handicaps since, so questions to answer on his reappearance.
Only victory from 17 starts came over C&D when well backed in a Class 7 race. Some promise next time in a similar event but never able to get competitive from a wide outside draw latest. Still feasibly-treated if things drop right.
It's now 24 starts without getting his head in front but belated signs of encouragement when stepped up to this distance for the first time here latest, finishing second behind comfortable winner Nouvelle Ere. Respected on that form but overall profile far from convincing.
Unplaced at sizeable odds on all eight starts to date, though a switch to the AW has sparked some improvement. That said, didn't look an obvious winner-in-waiting over 7f here last time and hopes pinned on the step up in distance.
Forecasts
Master Of Heaven (4/1), Muzaahim (4/1), Fast On (5/1), Hydrant (6/1), Spryt (7/1), Ertidaad (7/1), Mr Turner (10/1), Haabis (10/1), Sublimation (12/1)
A trappy finale in which it's hard to get carried with the claims of any runner, or rule anything out with conviction. Whilst it would be lovely to see Hydrant mark his 100th appearance with a win - and he wouldn't be the first horse to do so - a more compelling case could be made out for the less-exposed MUZAAHIM on the basis that the combination of a longer trip and a first-time hood could spark improvement. It's not hard to see C&D winners Master of Heaven or Fast On getting competitive either, whilst even long-standing maiden Ertidaad enters calculations on the form of his last run.
- Muzaahim
- Master Of Heaven
- Ertidaad
