Won from a 6lb lower mark at Kelso in October (2m Good to Soft), but has run two stinkers since, so has questions to answer. Not run at this track for a very long time, so connections maybe hopeful a change of scenery will help this multiple winning eleven-year-old bounce back to her best.

Maiden who runs in the first time cheek-pieces, but ran an excellent race from a 2lb lower mark last time at Exeter when nudged out by a younger horse trained by Alan King. A reproduction of that effort will see her go close in a weak race.

Lightly raced for her age, with her Carlisle run in October 2016 (ninth of 11) her sole run since March 2016. Overall, she's only shown very minor ability and is overlooked with this trip looking sharp enough.

Back from a break, and in the process of running a career best at Chepstow in mid November (2m mares handicap) when challenging for second and falling at the last. Not able to cope with a 4lb rise next time, but possibly didn't stay the trip and contender dropped back to 2m in first time cheek-pieces.

Nicki's Nipperp8

4/1
C&D winner from a 13lb lower mark in April 2016, and backed that success up two runs later when scoring over a slightly longer trip at Cartmel in June 2016. Probably needed the race on return (over fences) last time, and returns to hurdles with some sort of realistic chance despite the hefty rise.

15 race maiden, and difficult to fancy on what she's shown in three starts this winter. Possibly sharper for her run at Warwick recently but needs to be to capitalise on a falling mark.

Bertha Burnett20
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-11| J: Jamie Hamilton(3)| T: B Rothwell| OR:  83

Longstanding maiden on the Flat, who has shown nothing in three starts over hurdles spread over a period of two years. Makes her handicap debut here in a weak race, but unlikely to trouble the judge.

Ex Irish. Tends to race prominently, but didn't seem to relish hurdles on either of her first two starts at Musselburgh in November, and whilst she's shown minimal improvement recently, others are readily preferred.

10/1
Has won twice in the past (both at Hexham) from lowly marks, and didn't run at all badly behind Oishin at Newcastle last month. This is similarly weak, but it might be the Hexham spring fixtures which provide her with a better winning chance.

Raced on the Flat for Ann Duffield upto 1m, and struggling late on when falling on hurdles debut at Perth in September. Made her debut for this yard last time (well beaten) with her stamina looking highly questionable for hurdling.

Forecasts

Yur Next (7/4), Chance Taken (5/2), Gold Bonne Raine (7/2), Nicki's Nipper (4/1), Alys Rock (8/1), Mrs Grass (10/1), Baby Ticker (11/1), Cool Baranca (16/1), Marbeth (25/1), Prairie Impulse (28/1), Bertha Burnett (50/1)

Verdict

A very moderate mares handicap in which Taunton regular Yur Next could seek to follow up a success on Friday under a penalty, but it can pay to concentrate on the Williams trained pair. Evan Williams Gold Bonne Raine was in the process of registering a career best at Chepstow in November when falling at the last, and possibly found the trip beyond her in deep ground at Uttoxeter last time. However, it is the Noel Williams trained CHANCE TAKEN who gets the nod, and ought to go close to breaking the maiden tag in first time cheek-pieces if able to reproduce her good effort from Exeter last time off a 2lb higher mark. 1. Chance Taken 2. Gold Bonne Raine 3. Nicki's Nipper
