Richard Fahey's guide to his Saturday runners at Beverley, Catterick, Haydock, Musselburgh and Newmarket

Richard Fahey talks us through his Saturday team that comprises 19 runners at Beverley, Catterick, Haydock, Musselburgh and Newmarket.

When you see any two-year-old win by six lengths you’re surprised and delighted so to do it at the Derby meeting in the Woodcote with Cosmic Law was truly memorable.

He’s come out of the race absolutely fine, but we’ll see how he is next week when we firm up our Royal Ascot plans to see if he goes for the Coventry.

This weekend is lower key but we’ve a usual busy Saturday with 19 runners around the country, starting with Eastern Impact our sole raider down at Newmarket as they kick-off the July Course season.

He's been dropped 2lb after he ran over a distance a bit too far last time and he loves his trips down to Newmarket on either course. We’ve got the right man on board in Ryan Moore, too, so a better run is very much expected in the Margaret Giffin Memorial Handicap.

I can’t believe it’s seven years since we won the Brian Yeardley Two Year Old Trophy with Gabrial and the horse we run in the Beverley feature this year, Wasntexpectingthat, is a nice type.

He beat Big Ace over the course and distance on his latest start where he seemed to appreciate the better ground. He’ll get further as the season goes along but this track and trip looks perfect for him right now.

He’d have a chance.

I run two in the Hilary Needler; Good Tyne Girl and Kodyanna. Good Tyne Girl did it well at Leicester and the horse in ninth that day, Cococabala, came out and won at Wetherby on Wednesday night.

He got upset in the stalls at Leicester, but it still looks good form and my filly improved plenty from her debut to her second start.

I was pleased with Kodyanna at Nottingham and she should get better with racing, just like her half-sister Darkanna did.

In the Nearly Graham Hallett Memorial Fillies’ Handicap I run Prying Pandora but she seems to have fallen out of love with the game a bit. She could go to the sales and I hope she bounces back, but she is 5lb out of the weights here.

La Sioux runs in the Megan O’Meara 21st Birthday Handicap and she’s up 2lb after winning a weak race at Redcar on her latest start.

She’s relatively unexposed on turf and the visor has helped her as well, but this looks a tougher race than last time.

Our final runner at Beverley is Gangland in the FilplasticUK Ltd 25th Anniversary Handicap (Div II) and he has a bit to prove after struggling on his couple of starts so far this season.

Best Chances

Over at Haydock we run three, starting with Powerallied in the Betway Dash Handicap.

He’s been knocking on the door and the horse that beat him at Ayr, Tanasoq, won the Dash at Epsom, so it looks good form and we’re hopeful of another big run.

Equitant runs in the six-furlong race for three-year-olds, the Betway Sprint Handicap, and I’ve been a bit disappointed with him on the track as he shows a bit more at home.

He’s at least dropped a couple of pounds after a recent fourth at Haydock but I’d be hoping to see a bit more than he’s shown recently.

In the final race Knowing Glance runs for the Betway Handicap over seven furlongs and he won last time despite everything going wrong, so that’s a very nice trait to have.

That was at Carlisle and he’s up 5lb but he’s going the right way and I’m very much looking forward to seeing him run again.

We’ve three up at Musselburgh starting with Roderick in the Edinburgh Gin EBF Stallions Novice Stakes.

He’s shown us a bit at home and is a half-brother to Rotherhithe, a filly we’ve had trouble getting in the stalls, so hopefully that doesn’t run in the family.

Also at Musselburgh Ventura Gold steps up in trip in the Edinburgh Gin’s Cannonball Handicap and I think the extra distance will really suit him.

His form isn’t too bad and if he does stay he must have a good chance. He’s been running consistently well but the extra couple of furlongs could well bring about a bit more improvement.

It’s a long time since Angel Gabrial won but he ran okay at Chester last time where the race wasn’t run to suit.

He needs a proper gallop to aim at and he’s very well handicapped now when things drop right. Hopefully they go a strong enough pace for him in the Edinburgh Gin’s Distillery Tour Handicap.

Finally, we take five up to Catterick beginning with Primeiro Boy in the totescoop6 It’s A Rollover Novice Median Auction Stakes.

He will have learnt plenty at Hamilton last week and he’s taking on a few newcomers here so hopefully he can put that experience to good use.

Rene Mathis and Heaven's Guest
Rene Mathis: Dropping down the weights

Monaco Rose struggled at Chester last time so we’re dropping her into claiming company in the totequadpot At totesport.com Classified Claiming Stakes.

After that Rene Mathis and Scofflaw run in the totescoop6 Handicap over seven furlongs and both are dropping down the weights following some indifferent runs.

Rene Mathis is really well handicapped now, but he needs to bounce back. Sebastian Woods is taking 5lb off him to try and help him further.

Scofflaw is just completely out of sorts at the moment and I’m not sure why. This time last year he was running well so I’m just hoping he begins to show us something soon.

Inviolable Spirit goes for the Totesport Download The App Handicap and he won in heavy ground at Leicester last time out.

He’ll face very different conditions on Saturday but he should cope with better ground okay. He’s gone up 4lb but showed a good attitude to win last time so he should be competitive as long as he doesn’t need more testing conditions to slow the others down.

Finally, Pop Telecom does nothing wrong at home and I’m looking forward to seeing what she can do on the track when she makes her debut in the totepoolliveinfo.com Median Auction Maiden Stakes.
