Ran close at Ripon last in a race he won last year. However of his 10 race wins six have come at that track and three at Beverley and not certain to replicate the run here.

Former Group 1 third in his native South Africa but finished last on both starts in Ireland. Hard to weigh up but makes a debut for a trainer adept at improving imports and the market may be the best guide.

Only had five starts and interesting on his seasonal reappearance after a lengthy absence. His maiden win and Newmarket third rate well and something was clearly amiss in a valuable handicap last time. Looks a contender.

Inconsistent performer who was upped markedly in grade and struggled at Epsom. This is a drop in class but a higher level than his Ripon win and is a tough ask off 6lb higher.

Progressive this season winning two from four and his latest success was a significant step forwards. Up 6lb but we probably haven't seen the best of him yet and he could easily follow up.

Last win came over this distance on the AW but generally well-held in three starts since over further. Good jockey booking but not as good on turf and rated 9lb higher on AW.

Stable also run Calder Prince but he looks the pick of the pair. Just one win from 13 starts but open to improvement after a good fourth at Doncaster. Drops back in trip but ran well over it on the AW and could go close.

This extra furlong doesn't look ideal with his best form at shorter and generally reserves his best for Chester. Was a good second at Ayr last time but that was over the minimum trip and others preferred.

Well handicapped on turf with his rating 5lb lower than that on the AW. Returned from a lengthy absence with an excellent third in similar conditions and should be primed to go close.

Looked to be ready to win when starting the season with two good seconds off this mark and wasn't suited by the easier surface last time. Can bounce back on this ideal ground.

Has clearly had his problems and returned from near two year absence when well beaten in a small field over the C&D. Hard to recommend on second start for new stable.

Forecasts

Calder Prince (3/1), Summerghand (4/1), Mickey (5/1), Open Wide (5/1), Pipers Note (17/2), King Robert (9/1), Pennsylvania Dutch (10/1), Reputation (12/1), Powerallied (18/1), Mostahel (20/1), Misty Birnam (20/1), Secretinthepark (50/1)

Verdict

A very open handicap in which the market may be the best guide with Mostahel who remains the runner open to the most progress on this return from an absence. Summerghand is still improving and could defy the rise in weights while Mickey will appreciate this shorter trip. KING ROBERT battled on gamely on his return and is on a dangerous mark in conditions which suit. Open Wide has shown a clear preference for this quicker ground and rates a clear danger.
  1. King Robert
  2. Open Wide
  3. Summerghand
