Man On The Spot previews Saturday's Pick 7 races

Our resident tipster Man On The Spot previews the races that comprise Saturday's free to play £100,000 Pick 7 game.

14:20 York JCB Handicap

SHADY MCCOY is usually held up for a late surge so a high draw may not inconvenience. He finished ahead of Above The Rest and Heaven's Guest when not beaten far in the Victoria Cup at Ascot and was a couple of lengths ahead of Mutawathea when fourth at Goodwood last time. Get Knotted was placed over track and trip three weeks ago while Gurkha Friend landed a double at Ripon earlier and went close again on his latest start. Theodorico bids for a hat-trick off a 12lb higher mark and is upped in class along with the other recent winners Fingal's Cave, Burnt Sugar and Reputation but Salateen could go well at the top of the weights.

14:35 Musselburgh William Hill Mares And Fillies' Handicap

Mark Johnston won last year’s inaugural running of this and sends the unbeaten Khamaary. The latter won her handicap debut by seven lengths at Redcar but the handicapper has taken a dim view and raised her 16lb. She’s still preferred to stablemate Fiendish while Normandie Lady beat Lincoln Rocks at Nottingham earlier and should do better back at this level having been upped in class last time. Hidden Rebel finished a close-up fourth at Carlisle recently but maiden winner ACADIAN ANGEL remains unexposed having been beaten less than a length on her handicap debut and John Quinn’s filly gets the nod.

14:55 York Best Western Hotels Ganton Stakes

Custom Cut made a successful raid at Leopardstown last month but was behind Gabrial when the latter went close in the Group 3 Diomed Stakes at Epsom. But Richard Fahey’s charge could only manage fifth in this last year while Mondialiste finds today’s trip short enough nowadays and has yet to hit top form so far this season. Spark Plug just missed out over 1m2f at Goodwood last time but THIKRIYAAT (NAP) won a Group 3 contest over a mile at the latter track last year. He’ll be sharper for last month’s comeback run here and further progress is expected from Sir Michael Stoute’s four-year-old this season. Recent winners, Khafoo Shememi, Golden Stunner and the unexposed Arabian Hope need to show further progress in this company.

15:10 Musselburgh William Hill Scottish Sprint Cup Handicap

Duke Of Firenze finished third in last year’s renewal ahead of Kimberella, Desert Law and Robot Boy with Confessional well behind. But David Griffiths’ charge was beaten a neck by Caspian Prince in the Epsom Dash a fortnight ago with Line Of Reason, Move In Time and El Astronaute all further behind. Stepper Point is penalised for winning a lower grade sprint at Chelmsford while Mirza is having his first start since October. ORION’S BOW won five in a row for Dandy Nicholls’ last summer and should be spot on now after a couple of starts for Tim Easterby. An apprentice’s 3lb allowance is a bonus today and he can return to winning ways.

15:30 York Catherine Kinloch Paver Memorial Macmillan Charity Handicap

Ekhtiyaar is upped 5lb for winning at Newmarket but further improvement is expected but the progressive Carlton Frankie steps up in class off an 8lb higher mark as he bids for a four-timer. Another unexposed type in DANIELSFLYER makes most appeal having returned to action with an impressive victory at Newmarket and David Barron’s colt gets the nod with more to come from him. Private Matter has no easy task carrying top weight but Perfect Angel is not badly treated on last year’s third here and is preferred to Wahash, who drops back in trip. Recent winners Smokey Lane and Golden Apollo are upped in class along with Munro and Poet's Society.

15:45 Musselburgh Stobo Castle Ladies Day Gold Cup Handicap

Sebastian's Wish has a 12lb hike to contend with having landed a hat-trick with an easy win over 1m4f here. Stablemate Kensington Star narrowly beat Card High over 1m6f last week and should stay this longer trip while Mr Globetrotter also won here before going in again at Catterick a week ago and is 6lb higher. Great Fighter beat Cosmic Tigress over four lengths when scoring at the track last month but a chance is taken on STORMIN TOM. The latter was third in this last year ,with Wor Lass well beaten, and can race off a 5lb lower mark today.

16:05 York Ice & Easy Frozen Alcoholic Slushies Handicap

Woody Bay hasn’t won since landing last year’s renewal but can race off a lower mark today. Hitman was placed at Wetherby on his reappearance and Destroyer was second over 7f here on his comeback, though well beaten. Rockwood won at Hamilton earlier and drops back down in class but Pontefract runner-up Hanseatic and the recent winners Talent Scout, Barwah and Mr Cool Cash all step up a grade. ZODIAKOS has yet win a handicap but has dropped 12lb down the weights in the past year and first-time headgear may bring about some improvement. Roger Fell’s charge gets the nod with Silvestre De Sousa on board today.
