Runner-up in a point bumper before third in a Warwick bumper 12 months ago. Pulled up on hurdling debut but stepped up after break/breathing operation when third here (2½m) in June. Not in same form when fourth at Uttoxeter last month but longer trip a plus now attentions switch to handicaps.

Bounced back to something like his best when a convincing winner at Stratford (3¼m, good to firm) in July. Didn't fare at all badly on back of a 6 lb rise when third at Sedgefield (27f) 5 weeks ago and possibilities for all the handicapper looks to have him about right.

Veteran who seems more effective on the Flat nowadays and he was again below form over the longest trip he's faced in this sphere when fifth of 7 in handicap hurdle at Newton Abbot (3¼m, good) 5 weeks ago. Visor goes back on in place of blinkers and handicapper continues to relent.

Remains a maiden but did run better than for a while when 3 lengths third of 7 in handicap over 3m here in April. However, went with little fluency when fifth at Ludlow (3m) next time and others preferred now returning after a 6-month layoff.

Won 4 times (including over 3m) over hurdles in spring 2025 and rejuvenated in blinkers of late, building on his Sedgefield second when going one place better from his basement mark at Kelso (21f) 9 days ago. Escapes a rise and merits serious consideration back up in trip.

Maiden who ran up to his best on the back of a 3-day turnaround when second of 4 in a Uttoxeter novice (23f) 9 days ago. Fallen to a career-low mark ahead of return to handicaps but suspicion he'll find a couple too good.

Forecasts

Luminaries (3/1), Captain Connor (7/2), Bashful Boy (9/2), Trigger The Light (5/1), East Eagle (11/2), Shorten Sassy (11/2)

Verdict

LUMINARIES races off the same mark as when successful at Kelso 9 days ago and, with the return to 3m firmly in his favour, he looks to have been found an excellent opportunity to follow up. East Eagle may emerge as the lead danger, with handicap debutant Trigger The Light another to monitor now his stamina is tested further.
