Proving expensive to follow in handicaps but has been shaping up well this season, doing nothing wrong back to being ridden from the front but just no match for one that was bouncing back at Newmarket (1¼m, good to firm) last month. Could well dominate with first-time cheekpieces applied.

Has run to a similar level on all 4 starts this year, ninth of 15 at Goodwood (9f, good to firm) most recently. Mark eases a shade but his wait for a first handicap success may well continue.

Scored over 1m at this course in June and despite going back to missing the break, quickly regained the winning thread in 5-runner event over C&D 3 weeks ago by 3¼ lengths from Without Compromise, the race panning out well for him. Another career best needed from 7 lb higher.

Mainly done his racing on the tapeta, winning 3 times at Newcastle at the end of last year. Had another breathing operation and proved himself just as effective as on all-weather returning from 4 months off when second of 5 to Jez Bomb over C&D 3 weeks ago. Needs to back that up.

Won back-to-back at Wolverhampton in March for Dr Richard Newland & Jamie Insole before notching another win on yard debut in a 7-runner event at Ripon (1m) last month. Excuses next time but turned in a solid effort after only 4 days off when third of 9 at Chester a fortnight ago. This tougher.

Sea The Stars colt who knew his job when making a winning start in 6-runner novice at Redcar (1¼m, good) on debut in June. Probably ran at least as well even in finishing only sixth of 8 at Doncaster (1½m, firm) the following month and interesting making the quick switch to a handicap.

Proving reliable this season, scoring at Redcar in July before posting a good fourth of 15 at York next time. Found run of good form coming to a halt when seventh of 13 at Haydock (1m, good to firm) 8 days ago and others more appealing in this grade. Heads back up in trip.

6f course winner on debut 12 months ago. Has been consistent in handicaps this season, though wasn't quick enough to capitalise on a further drop in the weights when fourteenth of 19 at Goodwood (1m) recently. First-time visor replaces usual cheekpieces and heads back up to 1¼m.

He may well be proving expensive to follow but HIGH DEGREE has put up several good efforts in defeat this season and, with the possibility of being able to dominate this in first-time headgear, William Haggas' 4-y-o gets the nod. His main threat may emerge from Jez Bomb, who has won 2 of his last 3 starts here in recent weeks, while Shoof Baeed looks an interesting handicap debutant on paper, so he completes the shortlist.
