Bagged handicaps (at up to 1m) at Chester and Pontefract last June. Off 10 months before beating only one in 22-runner handicap at York (7f, good) on reappearance in May. Usual tongue tie is reapplied after another break.

Won a novice at Newcastle over 7f in November and belatedly proved he's trained on dropped markedly in grade when fifth of 12 in handicap at Southwell (7f) 18 days ago, first-time cheekpieces a possible catalyst. Handicapper drops him 2 lb but more required.

Won at Southwell and over C&D on return in May and has upped his game in defeat since, finding one too strong for the third start in a row at Ayr (1m, good to firm) last week. Hard to see him not featuring in this vein of form.

Capitalised on a falling mark when making a winning return at Southwell in April. Has largely struggled since, though did run one of this season's better races when second of 6 at Pontefract (1m, good to firm) 9 days ago.

Scored over C&D in April and largely in good nick since, though wasn't strong in the finish upped to 1¼m for the first time this year at Redcar just over a fortnight ago. Quickly returns to 1m.

Posted her best effort of the season equipped with a first-time tongue strap when ending a losing run at Ripon (1m) in June. Not in quite the same form since, rather flattering to deceive returned to 1m at Ayr last month, though now lurks just 1 lb above her last winning mark.

Produced best effort for current connections when ¾-length third of 10 at Carlisle in May but took a small step backwards after a couple of positive runs when fifth of 11 at Doncaster (7f, good to firm) the following month. Cheekpieces/tongue tie reapplied.

Has a good record at Ripon and proved better than ever when winning a 9-runner event there (1m) early last month. Reverted to his old habit of racing too freely and that translated into a below-par display back there 12 days later, however.

Snapped a losing run when narrow winner at Musselburgh (1m) prior to running at least as well in defeat when ¾-length second at Ripon next time. Found class 4 company too hot at York just under 3 weeks ago and likely in need of further respite from the assessor.

Free-going type whose sole success came at Ripon in summer 2024. Tongue tied and ran better than for a while reverted to more positive tactics when third of 5 at Nottingham just over a fortnight ago. Handicapper generously drops him another 3 lb.

Seemed to benefit from the fitting of more severe headgear (first-time blinkers) when notching a fourth Pontefract win last month before producing another good effort from 3 lb higher when second there 9 days later. C&D winner back in 2023 and folly to ignore in this mood.

Won at Redcar in June, having the run of the race on the far rail, though he has backed that up with a trio of creditable thirds since. Cheekpieces reapplied and one to consider returned to 1m.

Gained breakthrough success at Leicester in July and backed it up with a good second at Doncaster next time. Possibly unsuited by the quick turnaround at latter track just over 3 weeks ago but looks opposable in this company.

Pair of 7f wins last year. Down the field first 2 starts this season but bounced back to best when second of 14 at Beverley (7.4f, good to firm) a couple of months ago, headed post but pulling clear of remainder. Nudged up 3 lb for that near miss.

Verdict

A host in with chances but the vote goes to MILITARY LEADER, who has upped his game significantly this season and Phillip Makin's 5-y-o arrives on the back of a career-best effort. Blinkers have had a positive effect on Mount King, so he could be the one to offer most resistance, with Travis and Donna Nook another couple worth considering, also.
