4-y-o who tasted success twice last at up to 1m last season and enhanced his form again since cheekpieces were added, running best race despite not being ideally placed when second on seasonal bow at Kempton (1m) 5 weeks ago. Of interest from this mark.

Winner of a maiden at Haydock (1m) in May but consistent rather than progressive in 4 starts thereafter last term. Resumes from 5 months off with yard in good form though and not dismissed.

Won 7f novice at Chester on debut and ran at least as well when second under a penalty at Southwell in November. Yet to build on those exploits in pair of all-weather handicaps but assessor is steadily easing his grip now upped in trip.

Useful for Kevin Philippart De Foy and whilst he stepped up markedly on his stable debut effort, he never threatened when down the field at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 19 days ago. Best watched for the time being.

Improved model last season, ending Flat campaign with success at Newmarket (1½m) in September for Ben Brookhouse. Some way below that level on stable/hurdles debut at Newbury in December and now returns to this sphere having undergone a breathing operation. Betting should guide.

Enhanced good record fresh when close third at Lingfield in February but failed to make a significant impact either outing since on all-weather.

Improved again last year, adding to his tally over this trip at Newcastle in October and placed next 3 starts. Had hopeless task from position when midfield at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 3 weeks ago and this consistent type is respected back on turf.

Successful 3 times during first half of 2025, latterly over this trip at Windsor in July. Hard to knock his consistency in defeat thereafter but handicapper slow to cut him some slack as a result. Fact he's gone well fresh a plus ahead of this.

Improved when making a winning handicap debut at Wolverhampton (8.6f) in December and acquitted himself well in all 3 outings since, close-up fifth granted run of race when fifth over this trip at Newcastle 5 weeks ago. Claims if proving as effective on turf.

Got right back on track when doubling career tally at Windsor in September. Excuses next start and confirmed herself still in good heart when runner up at Bath on final outing in October. Possibilities on return.

Forecasts

Cavolo Nero (5/2), Love Beach (7/2), Qitaal (9/2), Just An Hour (7/1), Moon Beginnings (7/1), Jez Bomb (8/1), Mighty Quiet (14/1), Monty Beau (28/1), Secret Beach (33/1), Kind Of Kiss (50/1)

Verdict

A dual scorer as a 3-y-o, CAVOLO NERO made an encouraging return from 5 months off when staying on for second at Kempton (1m) 5 weeks ago. Not ideally placed on that occasion, he's very much of interest now tackling this longer trip for the first time and shades preference over returning bottom-weight Mighty Quiet. Love Beach and Jez Bomb are also considered.
