Night of Thunder gelding who was seventh of in maiden at Fontainebleau (12 lengths behind Juwelier) on debut last April. Sold from A. Fabre 10,000 gns later in the year and is open to improvement having been picked up by shrewd connections.

100/1 but showed plenty to work on when second of 8 in novice at Newcastle on debut in October. Went backwards from that effort when a well-beaten fourth at Redcar a fortnight later and makes his return back on all-weather.

Mayson filly offered something to work on at big odds when fourth of 7 in maiden (40/1) at Chelmsford (6f) on debut in February. That form is best treated with a degree of caution, however, and now steps up in trip.

€80,000 yearling. Coulsty gelding. Brother to useful 1m/9f winner Glenall. Slightly concerning he's had a breathing operation prior to this debut.

Age: 3|  Weight: 8-13| J: David Probert| T: J Channon| OR:  86
Took a step forward on his first nursery when second of 8 at Doncaster (6/1) in September, making the running before being worn down close home. Makes all-weather debut/return and it's unlikely we've yet to see all he has to offer (has been gelded).

Showed a bit more than on debut but not enough to make him of any immediate interest when fifth at Kempton earlier in the month. Looks one for the longer term.
|
Timeform
Held back by inexperience when third on debut at Yarmouth in September before seventh of 8 at York (22/1) the following month. Makes return/all-weather debut and looks one for handicaps after this.
|
Timeform
Bred to need time and distance and he's finished down the field twice in recent weeks. Handicaps after this seemingly on the agenda.
|
Timeform
No Nay Never colt who showed ability when second of 5 in a novice at Wolverhampton on debut earlier in the month, pulling nicely clear of the third but no match for the odds-on favourite. Should improve with that under his belt.

Palace Pier colt who shaped as if in need of run for both fitness and experience when fourth of 7 in a novice at Wolverhampton (25/1) on debut 9 days ago. No surprise if he leaves that bare form behind.

Well beaten in novice/maiden 5 months apart for a couple of different trainers. Upped markedly in trip but can only be watched.

Forecasts

Crest of Fire (1/1), Powder Monkey (3/1), Finlaggan (7/1), King Of Berkshire (10/1), Brouhaha (12/1), Regulus Black (20/1), Silver Splash (20/1), Superfortress (20/1), Immediate Jewel (50/1), My Dad Frank (100/1), Ghadra (100/1)

Verdict

CREST OF FIRE relished being let stride on up at 1m when runner-up on his first handicap back in September and with improvement expected, Jack Channon's 3-y-o gets the nod to go one better on return. Powder Monkey looks his main threat having well and truly bumped into one on debut at Wolverhampton earlier this month, while the once-raced Finlaggan needs keeping a close eye on having been picked up by shrewd connections.
