Has won 5 of 8 starts including on handicap debut 39 days ago. Second of 8 in handicap at Haydock (15/8 fav) latest, foiled in hat-trick bid but recorded another personal best. Could regain winning thread from 2 lb higher.

Dual bumper winner in France at the start of 2024. Made a winning hurdle debut for Nicky Henderson in December but form went the wrong way. Offered little on first start for Ben Haslam but much more like it when making all at Musselburgh in November. Up 4 lb and now needs to back that up.

Won a maiden hurdle last July before fifth of 13 in handicap (13/2) at Down Royal in August, running his best race in handicaps. First run for new trainer and the market may help.

Confirmed the promise of his second-place finish here on November's reappearance when going one place better as short-priced favourite. Up 7 lb and a first-time tongue strap is applied on first run for new trainer.

That One65
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-8| J: Callum Bewley| T: J Walton| OR:  114| D
Won twice last season, including final start Hexham in April and picked up where he left off when second of 8 over C&D on return from 8-month break, keeping on but lacking the gears to match the favourite. Can remain competitive.

Age: 7|  Weight: 11-5| J: Jonathan England| T: S England| OR:  111| D
Enhanced pretty good strike rate and better than ever in the process for latest success at Haydock last month, travelling well. Raised 6 lb which asks a new question but he's likely to give it a good go.

Showed ability in bumpers and likewise both starts over hurdles, albeit fortunate to win 4-runner maiden at Sedgefield (4/1) 39 days ago when left clear 3 out after favourite crashed out. Handicap debut from a mark that demands more.

Landed a pair of handicap hurdles a couple of seasons back but he was below-par last term and offered little both starts upon return. Cheekpieces removed.

Triple C&D winner during first half of 2025 but little to shout about both starts upon return. Still 2 lb above last winning mark so others more persuasive.

Second at Newton Abbot in September but seventh of 10 in C&D handicap in November, too free and faded after being fourth at 3 out. Hood and tongue strap back on, which may help him settle.

Out of sorts on Flat and over hurdles prior to leaving Rebecca Menzies and down the field on stable debut last month. Plenty to prove.

Forecasts

Medieval Gold (3/1), Smart Decision (10/3), Gintime (6/1), Haarar (7/1), Kientzheim (8/1), That One (10/1), Dunkerque (12/1), Book of Secrets (12/1), Lady Babs (20/1), Rafferty's Return (20/1), Spartan Warrior (33/1)

Verdict

SMART DECISION has won 5 of 8 starts and although foiled in his hat-trick bid at Haydock 17 days ago, he recorded another personal best. He looks the answer, though Medieval Gold won over C&D in November and despite being up 7lb, further success can't be ruled out with a first-time tongue strap applied for his new yard. Haarar produced a career best when winning at Haydock so also commands respect.
