Gambled-on 7/4, improved on recent efforts to win 11-runner handicap at this C&D 33 days ago, leading over 1f out then soon clear. Handicapper has taken a swipe with a 10 lb rise and it would be interesting to see if his supporters return.

C&D winner. Creditable second of 13 in handicap at Newcastle (16.2f, 5/2) 18 days ago, clear of rest. This drop back down in trip won't be a problem and a deserved victory is surely not far away.

25/1, again wasn't seen to best effect when second of 12 in handicap at this course (8.6f) 6 weeks ago, having to make his effort wider and from further back than ideal. Significantly back up in trip. Can make presence felt.

Fourteen runs since last win in 2024. Back to form when fourth of 13 in handicap (15/2) at Kempton (12f) 33 days ago. Not the easiest to trust so wouldn't be sure to be in the same form here.

11/10, improved further when winning 12-runner handicap at this C&D 7 days ago readily by 2¼ lengths from Hackney Diamonds, leading early in straight. 5 lb higher but the way he's progressing, that may not be enough to stop him.

Different Tone18

Showed a bit more than on stable debut when fifth of 13 in handicap (10/1) at Newcastle (16.2f) 18 days ago. Down in trip. Below his winning mark and can win races for these connections.

4-time course winner. Ran respectably back up in trip after 3 months off when fourth of 10 in handicap at this C&D (16/1) in October. Entitled to strip fitter but likely to find a few too strong.

5 wins from 13 runs this year. 15/2, run of good form halted when seventh of 13 in handicap at Newcastle (10.2f) 5 weeks ago, racing too keenly. Back up in trip.

Fifteen runs since last win in 2024. 12/1, creditable 2¼ lengths second of 12 to So Alex in handicap at this C&D 7 days ago. Will struggle to live with that rival again all things being equal but can make the placings again.

Forecasts

Three Yorkshiremen (3/1), So Alex (4/1), Educate (11/2), Oman (15/2), Hackney Diamonds (8/1), Damascus Steel (10/1), Different Tone (12/1), Rubellite (12/1), Havachoc (12/1), Prince Ali (20/1), Busby (33/1), Ice Opera (50/1)

Verdict

Cases can be made for a few of these but SO ALEX is more progressive than the vast majority he'll face over the winter so gets the nod to supplement his recent C&D success at the expense of Three Yorkshiremen, who landed a gamble here last month and the handicapper has reacted accordingly. Educate and Hackney Diamonds round off the shortlist.
