Fairly useful gelding. Creditable third of 7 in handicap (11/10) at this C&D 17 days ago. Solid each-way chance.

Promising sort. Second of 5 in novice (13/8) at Lingfield (8f, AW) 22 days ago, slowly away. Remains open to improvement and should make a bold bid.

€5,000 yearling, Prince of Lir gelding. Dam, 1½m winner who stayed 1¾m, half-sister to winner up to 1½m Reduit and 1¼m-1½m winner Sentinel (both useful). Yard rarely strikes with newcomers and this one is probably watched first time out.

Twice-raced maiden. Second of 11 in maiden (9/1) at Leicester (8.2f, good to firm). That form is pretty decent and this Cracksman colt will surely have a big part to play if taking to tapeta.

Once-raced maiden. 7/2, tenth of 15 in maiden at Thirsk (7f, good) on debut. Off 7 months and he should do better in time. Yard saddles a stronger candidate on this occasion in Forest Caper.

Lightly-raced maiden. Good third of 9 in nursery (14/1) at Musselburgh (7.1f, good), left poorly placed. Off 13 months (gelded in the interim) and looks vulnerable.

Thrice-raced maiden. 10/1, ninth of 13 in novice at Wolverhampton (8.6f). Off 175 days. First run for yard after leaving Richard Hannon and he's another who will probably be better off in handicaps further down the line.

Forecasts

Clouds Hill (5/4), Forest Caper (9/4), Monty Beau (10/3), Time Turner (9/1), Pinatubo's Legacy (14/1), Mao Shang Wong (22/1), Mr Dreamseller (25/1), Storm The Dug (28/1), Treasure Islands (50/1), Wingstar (125/1), Neptune Street (150/1), Ned Broy (200/1)

Verdict

Having shown plenty when runner-up in maidens at Musselburgh and Leicester earlier this year, CLOUDS HILL looks the way to go. The form of his latest effort doesn't read at all badly and he is marginally preferred to Monty Beau, who has also found just one too good on each of his two starts and looks sure to pick up a race sooner rather than later. Forest Caper is best of the rest.
