Dual winner at Goodwood last season who presumed progress after 7 months off when scoring at Southwell (12f) in April. However, hasn't scaled same heights in handful of starts since, the return to Goodwood failing to spark a revival when last of 7 in handicap (12f) there 19 days ago.

40/1
Capable 6-y-o who has developed something of an all-or-nothing profile, yet finished runner-up over 10f here for Kevin Ryan in July and was better than he could show for new yard when seventh of 10 in handicap at York (11.8f) 20 days ago (snatched up around 2f out). Still, others stronger.

Useful winner over this trip for Sir Michael Stoute but yet to truly find his feet for new yard, returned to forcing tactics when weakening into third in 5-runner Ripon handicap (12f) 54 days ago. Mark continues to slide at least if he can piece it all together.

Verging on useful (at up to 1½m) for Charlie Johnston and landed 2 of his first 3 starts in juvenile hurdles upon joining this yard last winter. Found out in Gr 1 company at Aintree when last seen in April but remains unexposed at this trip ahead of return and interesting if strong in the betting.

Excellent advert for his shrewd stable, registering his seventh victory from last 9 starts (runner-up other 2 starts) in 11-runner Racing League event at Southwell (11.1f) 2 weeks ago. Had something to spare at the line then and equally as effective on turf, he's respected again from 6 lb higher.

Registered a second career success in 12-runner handicap at Hamilton (9f) in June. No more than respectable efforts on 2 of his 4 subsequent outings and this marked increase in trip needs to have a positive effect now.

18/1
Lingfield maiden winner (at 12f) in April who was highly tried next 2 starts but back on track when runner-up on handicap debut at Thirsk (12f) in July. May not have been suited by undulating track when well-beaten at Chepstow 5 weeks ago and he's a likely bounce back candidate. Cheekpieces on.

5/2
Dual novice scorer who improved a chunk when third on handicap debut at York (10.2f) in May. Off 9 months/gelded, shaped like a well-treated sort despite being trapped wide when sixth in a Goodwood handicap (11.2f) 6 weeks ago and now equipped with a hood, he remains with untapped potential.

33/1
Dual purpose performer who has tasted success twice on the Flat since May, latterly at Sandown (14f) in July. Form has been rather up and down this season though, eighth of 10 in handicap at Goodwood (14f, good to firm) 19 days ago. May prove vulnerable in this line-up.

10/3
Sottsass gelding who was placed first 3 starts and justified cramped odds in first-time tongue strap when readily seeing off 5 rivals in a novice at Salisbury (9.9f) 13 days ago, very much having run of the race. Should stay 1½m and interesting on handicap debut for stable who won this 12 months ago

Won twice over 10f at Sandown and Newmarket in May and June. Ran with credit in trio of subsequent run, albeit unable to take advantage of drop back in grade when third of 6 in handicap at Lingfield (12f, AW) 21 days ago, Nevertheless, he holds each-way claims from easing mark.

Off the mark at fourth attempt in a Pontefract maiden (10f) in July and surpassed his handicap debut effort when second of 6 in handicap (7/2) at Kempton (11f) 15 days ago. Interesting connections opt for cheekpieces now stamina is tested further and he's well worthy of consideration.

10f winner on AW for James Fanshawe early last season and best efforts for present stable have come at that trip this year. Easy to overlook his latest run over 1m at Ayr 67 days ago and whilst this step back up in trip rates a plus, this looks another tough enough assignment.

Lightly-raced maiden who displayed improved form when second on handicap debut at Kempton (12f) prior to a disappointing sixth of 13 in handicap at Newcastle (12.4f) 21 days ago, his finishing effort rather underwhelming. Needs to leave that behind back on turf.

Verdict

This could well be prime for one of the 3-y-os to come to the fore, with EXPLODE narrowly selected to give James Ferguson a second consecutive victory in this race. A facile winner at Salisbury on his most recent start, he's bred to be suited by this sort of trip and an opening mark of 85 certainly doesn't look insurmountable on the pick of his form. Fellow 3-y-os Muhaajim and Munsif are others on the shortlist, with prolific scorer Crowd Quake and Rogue Impact others factored into calculations.
