Looked a good prospect when winning first 2 starts last spring. Well held in 3 subsequent starts in 2024 (Group 2 and 2 handicaps) but top yard perseveres and it'll be interesting to see what the betting makes of him back from 12 months off (been gelded).

Five wins from 17 starts but absent since finishing fourth at Wolverhampton in March 2023. A watching brief has to be the percentage call.

Kingman colt who quickly reached a useful level for the Gosden stable, including third in a Goodwood listed race. Only midfield in Royal Ascot handicap soon after being purchased for this owner for £600,000. Given time since and retains unexposed potential starting out for new yard.

Improver stepped up to 1¼m, winning fast-ground handicaps here and at Windsor at the start of the summer. Pulled up having reportedly lost his action at Glorious Goodwood since. Remains open to improvement.

Has looked a good prospect when winning maiden and handicap over 9f at Hamilton on his last 2 outings. A 5 lb rise shouldn't prevent another bold bid with further progress highly likely.

Course winner. 22/1, shaped encouragingly when sixth of 15 in C&D handicap at the recent Ebor meeting, faring best of those held up. Cheekpieces back on.

Three-time winner for Ollie Sangster who has been in good form for present stable, chasing home a couple of highly progressive 3-y-os in the Racing League at Newcastle before a near miss over C&D at the Ebor meeting.

Very progressive at up to 1¼m in the spring before patently failing to stay 1½m in King George handicap at Royal Ascot. Given time since and remains capable of better. Has first-time cheekpieces added to regular tongue tie.

No more than a respectable sixth of 12 in Racing League handicap (2/1) at Chepstow (1¼m, good) 31 days ago but had been a good second at Ayr prior to that. Capable of bouncing back.

Forecasts

Danger Bay (2/1), Per Contra (13/2), Dante's Lad (7/1), Hornsea Bay (8/1), Noble Horizon (8/1), Zain Blue (9/1), Gunship (9/1), Dark Moon Rising (14/1), Theory Of Tides (22/1), Tycoon (22/1), Magnum Opus (33/1), Contact (80/1)

Verdict

A good handicap which may be best narrowed down to the progressive 3yos. GUNSHIP was significantly better than the result at Royal Ascot and can show he's ahead of his mark back from 12 weeks off with cheekpieces added. There could be plenty more to come from Danger Bay who is second choice ahead of Dante's Lad. Dark Moon Rising has run a few promising races here this summer and may fare best of the older brigade.
