(10)

Marshman²⁰

Age: 5| Weight: 9-12| J: C Lee| T: K R Burke| OR: 110| CD

3/1

Made belated handicap debut a winning one over C&D in January. 7/2, respectable 2¼ lengths third of 9 to Spycatcher in listed race at Doncaster (6f, good) 20 days ago, finishing with running left having been hampered. AW record is very positive but big effort needed from revised mark.

Form: 07-1123

Diligent Harry^b1¹²

Age: 7| Weight: 9-10| J: Rossa Ryan| T: C G Cox| OR: 108| CD

13/2

C&D winner. Two wins from 5 runs last year. Regular in pattern company but acquitted himself well when third of 11 in handicap at Southwell (6.1f) 12 days ago. Blinkers replace cheekpieces.

Form: 307-453

(11)

Willem Twee^p1²³

Age: 6| Weight: 9-7| J: Daniel Muscutt| T: J R Fanshawe| OR: 105| D

16/1

Five wins from 18 Flat runs. 40/1, creditable fifth of 9 in handicap at Kempton (7f) 23 days ago, running on. Cheekpieces on first time but he does look in the grip of the assessor.

Form: 3179-65

(9)

Fivethousandtoone³⁵

Age: 7| Weight: 9-3| J: Oisin Murphy| T: T D Easterby| OR: 101| CD

9/2

C&D winner who has been shaping up well at Southwell, 2¼ lengths fourth of 11 to We Never Stop in handicap (6.1f) 35 days ago, nearest finish. Won this last year from 3 lb lower and he looks of serious interest.

Form: 060-744

(12)

Apache Outlaw³³

Age: 5| Weight: 9-2| J: Adam Caffrey| T: A McGuinness| OR: 100| D

22/1

Ended 2024 firmly on the up, recording 4 wins in all (3 of which at Dundalk) at up to 7f. 14/1, respectable fourth of 12 in handicap at the Curragh (6f, soft) 33 days ago. Higher AW mark justified but he still looks up against it.

Form: 3711-34

(15)

Golden Mind^b1,t²³

Age: 4| Weight: 9-1| J: O J Orr| T: R A Fahey| OR: 99| D

40/1

Tongue tie worked the oracle when doubling career tally at Kempton in February. 40/1, seventh of 9 in handicap at Kempton (7f) 23 days ago, well positioned. Blinkers added.

Form: 05-8177

(5)

Saint Lawrence^p⁹¹

Age: 7| Weight: 9-1| J: Hollie Doyle| T: A Watson| OR: 99| D

20/1

Fourteen runs since last win in 2023. 33/1, caught the eye when 3¾ lengths seventh of 14 to Marshman in handicap at this C&D, slowly away and short of room. Well handicapped if building on that.

Form: 6580-77

(2)

We Never Stop^p³⁵

Age: 4| Weight: 8-11| J: Shane Gray| T: K A Ryan| OR: 95| D

14/1

Career best when winning 11-runner handicap at Southwell (6.1f, 6/1) 35 days ago, kept up to work. AW record is a good one but he was seen to maximum effect so 4 lb rise could anchor him.

Form: 2-22671

(6)

The Caltonian^b⁵⁷

Age: 6| Weight: 8-10| J: K T O'Neill| T: Miss L A Perratt| OR: 94| CD

22/1

Three-time C&D winner. Latest win here in January. Cast aside a lesser run over 6f when an excellent second of 10 in handicap (5/1) at this course (5f) 57 days ago. Versatile regarding trip but this is a career-high mark.

Form: 306-192

(7)

Coachello¹⁹

Age: 7| Weight: 8-9| J: David Probert| T: D M Loughnane| OR: 93| CD

33/1

C&D winner. Latest win at Wolverhampton in December. Creditable seventh of 19 in handicap at Doncaster (6f, good, 28/1) 19 days ago, slowly away. Looks competitive on form.

Form: 041-597

(1)

Daamberdiplomat³⁵

Age: 5| Weight: 8-9| J: Jamie Powell⁽³⁾| T: J P Murtagh| OR: 93| D

28/1

Just about better than ever when winning a Dundalk handicap for the second time in December. Very promising return when fourth of 7 in handicap (10/3) at Dundalk (6f) 35 days ago, not ideally placed and that should set him up nicely for a bold bid.

Form: 86131-4

(8)

Heathcliff²³

Age: 4| Weight: 8-8| J: D Egan| T: J R Fanshawe| OR: 92| CD

6/1

C&D winner. Four wins from 7 runs last year, latest of them at Kempton in November. 5/1, sixth of 9 in handicap at Kempton (7f) 23 days ago, finishing with running left. Well-run 6f would be ideal and this track suits.

Form: 121-426

(16)

Run Boy Run^p⁹¹

Age: 4| Weight: 8-8| J: George Wood| T: R Spencer| OR: 92| CD

7/1

C&D winner. Four wins from 13 runs last year. 10/1, good neck second of 14 to Marshman in handicap at this C&D. Off 91 days but that no concern as his record fresh is a positive one.

Form: 36413-2

(4)

Badri³⁵

Age: 8| Weight: 8-7| J: Joanna Mason| T: M Herrington| OR: 91| BF| CD

22/1

C&D winner. 5/2, much better than the result when 4½ lengths sixth of 11 to We Never Stop in handicap at Southwell (6.1f) 35 days ago, badly hampered and finishing with running left. Needs treating as though still in top form.

Form: 477-126

Forecasts

Marshman (3/1), Fivethousandtoone (9/2), Heathcliff (6/1), Diligent Harry (13/2), Run Boy Run (7/1), We Never Stop (14/1), Willem Twee (16/1), Saint Lawrence (20/1), Apache Outlaw (22/1), The Caltonian (22/1), Badri (22/1), Daamberdiplomat (28/1), Coachello (33/1), Golden Mind (40/1)

A nice blend of pattern-level sprinters taking on rock-solid handicappers. HEATHCLIFF fits into the latter category and with this stiff 6f looking right up his street, he gets the nod to open his 2025 account. There are a plethora of potential dangers, notably last year's winner Fivethousandtoone, Saint Lawrence and Badri.
