Jack Hobbs gelding who was successful on second of 2 starts in point bumpers (Jan 2024) but has been tailed-off last in a bumper/maiden hurdle. Tongue tie added to the hood worn last time but can only be watched after 4 months off (has had a wind op).

Bumper winner who was fair over hurdles for Nicky Henderson. Safely held first 3 starts for new yard in handicap chases but returned to form back hurdling when third of 7 in first-time cheekpieces over this C&D 5 weeks ago. Considered back in maiden company.

Built on encouraging NH debut when winning bumper at Bangor last April. Folded tamely after 7 months off when pulled up in novice hurdle back at that venue in November and still looked in need of experience following a wind op at Kempton since. Way too soon to be writing him off.

Second of 4 on only start in Irish points and looked probably one for later on judged on his sixth of 9 in bumper at Wetherby (16f, soft) 4 weeks ago. Tongue tie on for this switch to hurdling.

Shaped much better than he had in bumpers for Thomas Gallagher after 7 months off when third of 11 in novice hurdle at Uttoxeter on hurdles bow in November and ridden in contrasting fashion, ran to a similar level back there just over 3 weeks later. Shouldn't be underestimated after a break.

Runner-up on his only start in points and fair form on 2 of his 3 starts in bumpers during first half of last year. Ran to only a modest level on hurdling debut at Kempton (21f, soft) recently, the way he got into contention promising more, but he's likely to better at some stage.

Built on mild debut promise when runner-up at Warwick last April and ran to a similar level when fourth at Southwell the following month, unable to make his experience edge count. Sent hurdling after 9 months off and the betting can guide expectations.

No promise in bumpers/maiden hurdles. Huge outsider.

£130,000 purchase after winning an Irish point. Confirmed himself a good prospect when winning a bumper at Chepstow (2m, heavy) in December 2023 and took a significant step forward when runner-up at Punchestown last May. Makes return and looks as a good-quality recruit to hurdling.

Hadn't shaped with a much encouragement in bumpers and was in need of the experience sent hurdling at Sedgefield recently. Watching brief advised.

Soldier of Fortune gelding who got off mark in points at fourth attempt (Mar 2024). Little encouragement to glean from his recent hurdles bow so looks an easy swerve.

Modest maiden on the Flat for David Loughnane and showed nothing on both starts over hurdles in recent months.

Forecasts

Queensbury Boy (4/9), Doctor Kildare (4/1), Bold Reaction (7/1), Icare Colombe (9/1), Little Big Kev (25/1), Special John (28/1), Luwdvig (40/1), Garrantemple (100/1), Batsman (100/1), Takes Time (400/1), Noble Recall (400/1), Smart Bucks (400/1)

Verdict

Plenty of dead wood in this opening maiden and it could be best left to QUEENSBURY BOY, who confirmed himself an above-average prospect when finishing runner-up in a Punchestown bumper 10 months ago and rates as a good-quality recruit to hurdling for a yard really clicking into gear. Bold Reaction heads up the dangers after his third over C&D 5 weeks ago, with Icare Colombe and Doctor Kildare taken to fight out third.
