Beau Quali21
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-4| J: Tristan Durrell(3)| T: D Skelton| OR:  118| BF
Runner-up in a juvenile hurdle in France last March (sole start for David Cottin) and has made the frame all 3 completed starts for present yard. Still firmly on the bridle when falling 3 out at Newcastle last time (jumping was slick prior to that lapse of concentration) and he's a big player.

Cheap purchase who showed a bit when sixth of 14 on Rules debut in a Uttoxeter maiden hurdle in December. However, ran out early on at Newcastle next time and looks risky on the back of that.
|
Timeform
Ran to a fair level first 2 starts in bumpers but well held on final outing last season and he hasn't shown much since returning to action in December.

Hinted at ability when fifth of 12 in a Carlisle novice hurdle on debut in this sphere but subsequent display at Wetherby couldn't be described as a step forward. Probably more one for handicaps in due course.

Age: 5|  Weight: 11-4| J: Tom Broughton(5)| T: N Kent
Runner-up sole start in Irish points last spring and chased home an odds-on hotpot on hurdles/Rules debut in 19.7f Wetherby novice in November. There wasn't much depth to that race, though, and he will need to raise his game significantly in order to trouble the principals here.

Fairly useful handicapper at up to 1½m on the Flat for David O'Meara (sold out of that yard for 22,000 gns), successful twice on AW in 2024, including when last seen in October (since undergone a wind op). Appeals as the type to make his mark in this sphere but this is a tough starting point.

Timeform
Modest handicapper on the Flat and this 8-y-o is opposable now switched to hurdles for new yard following a 22-month absence.

Age: 5|  Weight: 11-4| J: Ross Chapman| T: J Candlish
Fairly useful at best on the Flat but well held both starts in that sphere in 2024 and offered little with a first-time hood enlisted (retained) on recent hurdles bow at Newcastle.

Useful on the Flat and should improve on encouraging hurdles debut at Catterick where he looked the likeliest winner approaching the final flight before weakening into third in that 5-runner novice. Related to a jumps winner in France and should pick up a race in this sphere before long.

Irish point recruit who posted best effort under Rules so far when runner-up in a C&D novice at the end of November. Backward step upped to 19.3f at Catterick since and he's another who will probably be better off in handicaps.

Age: 5|  Weight: 11-4| J: Stan Sheppard| T: T Lacey
Fetched €72,000 as a 3-y-o and he's closely related to bumper winner/fairly useful hurdler Del La Mar Rocket. Interesting to see what the market has to say.

From a good jumping family and caught the eye on debut at Huntingdon. Failed to build on that in a Class 3 Newbury event next time but remains one to be positive about, particularly with handicaps likely on the agenda after this. Beau Quali appears to be the stable No 1.

Down the field in a trio of bumpers and huge step forward needed now switched to hurdles.

Fairly useful on the Flat in France, successful twice on AW in 2024. Sold out of Fabrice Chappet's yard for €30,000 in November and, with her recent spin on the level at Lingfield likely to have sharpened her up, she's very much of interest for her top yard now switched to hurdles.

Forecasts

Beau Quali (6/5), Stressfree (5/2), Timetoshine (5/1), Wotter Trotter (13/2), Supreme George (16/1), Wannabe (16/1), Natzor (16/1), Rogue Sea (50/1), Klapton Boy (50/1), Bold Jury (66/1), Jersey Stream (100/1), Peerless Percy (100/1), Dante's Inferno (200/1), Our Rosie (250/1)

Verdict

BEAU QUALI appeared to have matters firmly under control when exiting at the third-last in a Newcastle maiden last month and he is taken to atone for that mishap here. The clear main danger is Stressfree, a good-quality handicapper on the level who looked the likely winner before running out of steam in the closing stages on his first run over hurdles at Catterick. Timetoshine's three Flat wins were all gained on the all-weather but she is nevertheless respected now sent hurdling.
