Cloud Cover^h⁵⁶

Age: 4| Weight: 9-12| J: C Lee| T: J Tate| OR: 98| D

9/1

Progressed into a useful performer on AW, adding to her tally on Finals Day at Newmarket (7f) in March. Not seen to best effect from so far back when seventh of 12 in handicap back at that venue in August and she's respected.

Age: 11| Weight: 9-8| J: Joe Leavy⁽³⁾| T: K Frost| OR: 94| D

40/1

Latest win at Chelmsford City in April. Last of 9 in handicap at Thirsk (7f, good to firm, 22/1) 48 days ago, finding the run of the race against him. Better showing not ruled out back on AW but he lacks the potential of one or two here.

Form: 613039

Billyjoh^p²⁶

Age: 4| Weight: 9-8| J: Tom Marquand| T: M Appleby| OR: 94| C

9/2

Course winner who emerged with plenty of credit in big field turf handicaps this summer, not least when third in Stewards' Cup at Goodwood in August. Below best next time but quickly shaped as if back in form when midfield in Ayr Gold Cup next time. Of interest back at 7f.

Form: 202300

Bobby Bennu⁵²

Age: 3| Weight: 9-6| J: J Mitchell| T: R Varian| OR: 94| D

4/1

Landed the odds at Chester in June and defied a penalty at Thirsk (7f) in July. Not disgraced whilst looking no more than averagely treated since, fifth of 6 in handicap at Epsom (7f, good) 52 days ago. Needs to pull out more.

Form: 21155

Silver Samurai³²

Age: 7| Weight: 9-4| J: P J McDonald| T: M Botti| OR: 90| D

40/1

Returning from a 4-month break when resuming winning ways at Doncaster (7f) in June but not scaled same heights in trio of starts since. Others make greater appeal.

Form: 0-21009

Koy Koy^p1,t³⁴

Age: 5| Weight: 9-4| J: Grace McEntee⁽³⁾| T: G Boughey| OR: 90| D

18/1

Ended last term in good heart, successful on AW debut at Wolverhampton (8.6f) prior to a good third at Ayr (1m). Has caught the eye on a couple of occasions this time around but ultimately had every chance when fifth of 9 in handicap at Sandown (7f, soft) 34 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time.

Persuasion⁴¹

Age: 7| Weight: 9-4| J: Connor Beasley| T: T D Barron| OR: 90| D

33/1

Gained reward for a series of consistent efforts to get off the mark for the season in 11-runner event at Haydock (7f, good) 6 weeks ago, never far away in a race where it paid to be close to the slow gallop. One to consider from 3 lb higher.

Form: 062331

(6)

Zero Carbon^p¹⁵

Age: 5| Weight: 9-3| J: Finley Marsh| T: R Hughes| OR: 89| D

8/1

Useful sort who enhanced his excellent Kempton record over 1m in August, making all. Smashing effort when third in 6f conditions' event back there 15 days ago and he needs considering back in handicap company.

Form: 034613

(3)

Stone Soldier^p²⁶

Age: 7| Weight: 9-2| J: O J Orr| T: R A Fahey| OR: 88| CD

10/1

3-time C&D winner. Twelve runs since last win in 2022. Thirteenth of 14 in handicap at Ayr (8f, good to firm, 20/1) 26 days ago. Return to this venue may well have positive effect now.

Form: 6-04980

(13)

Paborus⁵⁵

Age: 3| Weight: 9-2| J: Callum Rodriguez| T: E Bethell| OR: 90| D

3/1

Won novices at Redcar and Carlisle in May and shaped better than the distance beaten suggests when seventh of 16 in handicap at York (7.9f, good to firm, 8/1) 55 days ago, weakening late on after racing freely. Remains capable of better.

Form: 4-117

(4)

Ararat¹²

Age: 4| Weight: 9-1| J: J P Spencer| T: D M Simcock| OR: 87| D

15/2

Latest win at Chelmsford (7f) in August. Creditable fifth of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6.1f, 10/1) 12 days ago, no extra final 100 yds. Each-way possibilities back up in trip.

Form: 1-92615

(12)

Hightimeyouwon^b¹³

Age: 8| Weight: 9-1| J: O McSweeney⁽³⁾| T: Stephen Thorne| OR: 87| D

22/1

Winner at Dundalk (7f) in March and best effort since when third of 8 in handicap back at that venue (7f) 13 days ago. On a workable mark and he's worth a second look now starting out for his new stable.

BILLYJOH has acquitted himself with plenty of credit in competitive big-field handicaps on turf in recent months, not finding the gaps appearing in time when midfield in last month's Ayr Gold Cup. Boasting a positive profile on synthetics and still lightly raced at 7f, he could be the answer. This is competitive though, with Paborus, Zero Carbon and Cloud Cover others holding sound claims. Haydock-scorer Persuasion is another in the mix.
