Celebrating Lilian's Retirement Novices' Hurdle (GBB Race)

Off time: 14:25 | Winning time: 4m 45.50s

Doc McCoy²⁵

Age: 5| Weight: 11-7| J: G Sheehan| T: Jamie Snowden

11/10

Impressive winner on sole start in points and displayed fairly useful form when placed all 3 outings in bumpers last season. Winning start to hurdle career at Huntingdon (19.5f) last month and he's the one to beat again with improvement on the cards.

Form: 1/332-1

Bugise Seagull³⁸⁴

Age: 5| Weight: 11-0| J: S Bowen| T: C E Longsdon

10/3

£95,000 purchase after finishing runner-up on second of 2 starts in Irish points (Nov 2022). Interesting recruit for new connections with Sean Bowen doing the steering.

Form: 52-

Desert Quest⁶⁶

Age: 5| Weight: 11-0| J: Craig Nichol| T: Ewan Whillans

50/1

Four-time Flat winner but at a modest level and doesn't strike as an obvious one to make a winning start over hurdles.

Form:

Emotional Roller¹⁴

Age: 5| Weight: 11-0| J: Tom Midgley⁽³⁾| T: J Parkinson & S Smith

150/1

Maiden Irish pointer and more one for the longer term judged on his 2 hurdle runs at Hexham this autumn.

Form: P25-P6P

Got Your Back²³²

Age: 5| Weight: 11-0| J: B S Hughes| T: D McCain Jnr

9/4

Runner-up sole start in Irish points and made an encouraging start to his Rules career when third in a Wetherby bumper for Michael Scudamore in March. Has joined Donald McCain for his hurdle career. Should be up to making his presence felt.

Form: 23-

Here Comes Georgie²⁸

Age: 5| Weight: 11-0| J: Joe Williamson⁽⁵⁾| T: P Neville| OR: 100

12/1

Fourth in a bumper but only modest form since switched to hurdles and likely to be of more interest when handicapping.

Form: 4-5F9

Iturgeon Du Breuil¹⁹

Age: 5| Weight: 11-0| J: Lorcan Murtagh| T: F P Murtagh

250/1

Placed in Irish point in May but has offered little short-term encouragement in a pair of Carlisle novice hurdles in recent weeks.

Form: P-368

Knacker Trapper²⁰

Age: 5| Weight: 11-0| J: J Kington| T: A Crook

100/1

Modest in bumpers and well held in novice hurdles after this. More one for handicaps after this.

Form: 944-88

Mister Smarty²⁰²

Age: 6| Weight: 11-0| J: S Mulqueen| T: Miss T Jackson

200/1

Poor form in 2 bumpers/novice hurdles. Booked for another struggle.

Form: 870-6

Am Still Here²⁰

Age: 4| Weight: 10-13| J: Sean Quinlan| T: N G Richards

100/1

In good hands bur is more of a longer-term project based on his 2 runs this autumn.

Form: 58

Conscription²³⁰

Age: 4| Weight: 10-13| J: Jamie Hamilton| T: T D Easterby

33/1

Runner-up in a point bumper but pulled up in a pair of maiden points since.

Form: 2PP-

Hang On¹⁵

Age: 4| Weight: 10-13| J: Ross Chapman| T: J Parkinson & S Smith

125/1

Out of a bumper winner but has looked like more of a long-term project in 2 bumpers and a novice hurdle.

Form: 976

Passengerontheship¹⁵

Age: 4| Weight: 10-13| J: Jonathan England| T: S England

80/1

Placed in an Irish point, but low-key start over hurdles at Uttoxeter and Sedgefield in recent weeks.

Form: 5387

Ourlittleprincess⁵²

Age: 4| Weight: 10-6| J: Jack Hogan⁽³⁾| T: P Neville

150/1

Out of a winning hurdler but hasn't shown much in 2 bumpers this autumn. Hurdle debut.

Form: 55

Spring Wind¹⁴

Age: 4| Weight: 10-6| J: Harry Reed| T: T Davidson

33/1

Fair maiden on the Flat in Ireland but no obvious promise on his recent hurdle debut for a new stable.

Form: 8

Forecasts

Doc McCoy (11/10), Got Your Back (9/4), Bugise Seagull (10/3), Here Comes Georgie (12/1), Spring Wind (33/1), Conscription (33/1), Desert Quest (50/1), Passengerontheship (80/1), Knacker Trapper (100/1), Am Still Here (100/1), Hang On (125/1), Emotional Roller (150/1), Ourlittleprincess (150/1), Mister Smarty (200/1), Iturgeon Du Breuil (250/1)

A big field but not many arrive with obvious claims. DOC MCCOY won nicely on his hurdle debut and is taken to defy the penalty with improvement on the cards. Got Your Back shaped well in a bumper in the spring and is a possible threat having switched to Donald McCain ahead of his hurdle debut. Irish point recruit Bugise Seagull is another who would come into it should the betting vibes be strong.
