Not far off useful at 3 yrs and has shaped as if needing the run both starts this term having missed all of 2022. Not taken lightly off career-low mark.

Well beaten in novices/maiden but showed much improved form to get off the mark at 33/1 on handicap debut at Newbury (12f, good) just under 6 weeks ago, leading 2f out and just holding on narrowly. Up 5 lb and will need to take another step forward.

1m novice winner on AW for Martyn Meade. Yet to get his head in front for present stable, letting himself down around the first bend when hanging badly left and unseating his rider at Beverley (12.1f, good to firm) 18 days ago. No surprise to see a visor go on.

Had been gelded/had wind op and finished well held on return but took a step back in the right direction when sixth at Doncaster (11.9f, good to firm) earlier this month, though quickly put in his place once the tempo lifted. More required.

Related to numerous winners and looks to be being brought along gradually, unable to justify very strong support when down the field at Thirsk (12f, good) just under 6 weeks ago. Cheekpieces applied for handicap debut and he's surely capable of better.

Down the field in maidens/novice last year but made an encouraging enough start to life in handicaps when fifth at Wetherby (10f, good to firm) earlier this month. Step forward needed to feature, though.

Bred to be suited by longer distances and duly took a step forward when runner-up at Ayr (10f, firm) just over a fortnight ago, just no match for a thriving rival. Sound each-way claims upped further in distance.

Forecasts

Reina Del Mar (16/5), Whatacracker (4/1), Allo Al Khawaneej (4/1), Dashing Panther (11/2), Zivaniya (11/2), Damascus Steel (11/2), Sea Master (6/1), Conservative (22/1), Sainte Colette (25/1)

Verdict

Cases can be made for a few of these, but preference is for REINA DEL MAR, who has seemingly been building up her fitness after a long absence and Ed Walker's 5-y-o can double her tally down to a career-low mark. Whatacracker ran well but was no match for a thriving rival at Ayr earlier this month and he may have to settle for silver again, while Allo Al Khawaneej and Damascus Steel can battle out minor honours.
