50/1

Fair maiden on the Flat (stays 1¼m) for Fozzy Stack in Ireland in 2021. Bought for 33,000 gns in October of that year so it took a while for new connections to get him to the track and he offered little at Wolverhampton 26 days ago. Goes hurdling now.

150/1

Well held in his only bumper and was too free sent hurdling here (20.4f) 37 days ago. Back down in trip.

Form: 40P

Even Break²⁸

Age: 5| Weight: 11-6| J: Benjamin Poste| T: Mrs R Gasson

4/9

£130,000 recruit from the Irish pointing field who left his hurdling debut form behind in a first-time tongue strap (also had breathing op) when second in 12-runner maiden at Warwick (2m) 3 weeks ago. Open to further improvement and the one to beat.

Form: F-52

Little promise in 2 bumpers/novice hurdles in 2022.

20/1

Doyen gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to very smart hurdler/smart chaser (stayed 3¼m) Fair Along and fairly useful hurdler (stayed 21f) Fairyland. Runner-up on third of 3 starts in Irish points (Feb 5). Bred for longer trip but would still enter the reckoning if supported.

Form: P-42

Soldat Forte²¹²

Age: 6| Weight: 11-6| J: B S Hughes| T: C E Longsdon

9/2

Unplaced completed starts in Irish points but showed fair form when making the frame on both bumper outings last summer. Should have a future over jumps.

Form: 57F-42

Tommouse^h1

Age: 7| Weight: 11-6| J: Patrick Cowley⁽³⁾| T: L Morgan

40/1

Getaway gelding. Brother to fairly useful bumper winner Lechlade Magician, and half-brother to 3 winners, including fairly useful hurdler/useful chaser Run To Milan (2¼m-3m winner). Hooded for debut and needs a market check.

Form:

Townhill^t²³

Age: 5| Weight: 11-6| J: Ben Sutton⁽⁷⁾| T: T Lacey

12/1

Won sole outing in Irish points and shaped with some encouragement on his hurdling bow when fifth in 7-runner novice at Ascot (19.3f) in February. Unsuited by drop in trip when well held at Taunton since so percentage call to look elsewhere kept to 2m.

T: Mrs M Rowley J: Alex Edwards

Forecasts

Great Samourai (4/9), Soldat Forte (9/2), Townhill (12/1), Shewearsthewellies (12/1), Cabhfuilfungi (20/1), Hostile Hotelier (20/1), Commanding View (20/1), Our Scholar (33/1), Tommouse (40/1), Captain Attridge (50/1), Bugle Major (50/1), Horse Power (66/1), Endlesspossibility (150/1), Even Break (200/1)

GREAT SAMOURAI left his hurdling debut form behind in a first-time tongue strap when runner-up at Warwick 3 weeks ago and, with further improvement on the cards, he's selected to go one better. Soldat Forte showed promise in a brace of bumpers last summer and ought to be up to making his presence felt in a race like this over hurdles. Newcomer Tommouse makes appeal on paper and requires a market check, also.
