bet365 Novices' Hurdle (GBB Race)

Off time: 16:40 | Winning time: 3m 52.80s

Ukantango¹⁶⁸

Age: 5| Weight: 11-6| J: Aidan Coleman| T: O Murphy| D

6/5

Placed on second of 2 starts in Irish points and strong at the finish when making a winning Rules debut in a Stratford bumper in March. Landed the odds with the minimum of fuss in a novice hurdle at Aintree (16,5f) 8 weeks later. Entitled to progress.

Form: 5/31-1

Copper Beach²⁴⁴

Age: 5| Weight: 11-0| J: Thomas Willmott⁽³⁾| T: J Parkinson & S Smith

33/1

Showed first form when fourth in a 7-runner novice at Newcastle (16.2f) in February but was probably flattered in a steadily-run race.

Form: 874-

Detective¹³

Age: 6| Weight: 11-0| J: C O'Farrell| T: Mrs Dianne Sayer

33/1

Pulled up both starts in novice hurdles in 2020, but has shown fairly useful form on the Flat subsequently so should do better.

Form: PP/

Don Hollow²⁶⁵

Age: 5| Weight: 11-0| J: Harry Skelton| T: D Skelton| CD

9/4

Had a breathing op prior to winning C&D bumper on NH debut by neck from Royal Mogul in February. Value for a bit extra over the result on that occasion, so very much one to note now going over hurdles for top stable.

Form: 1-

Royal Mogul²³⁵

Age: 6| Weight: 11-0| J: B S Hughes| T: D McCain Jnr

5/1

Placed in Irish points at second attempt and showed fairly useful form in bumpers for Fergal O'Brien, including when runner-up to Don Hollow over C&D in February. Too keen when well below form on final start but could get back on track now jumping for new stable.

Form: 43/7623-

Timetotalk¹⁶

Age: 6| Weight: 11-0| J: Craig Nichol| T: Chris McSharry| OR: 87

50/1

Placed a couple of times in bumpers but down the field both starts over hurdles. Handicaps presumably up after this.

Form: 36/2743

War Soldier²⁶³

Age: 5| Weight: 11-0| J: J J Burke| T: A M Thomson| D

13/2

Point recruit who made a successful start in bumpers at Newcastle in December, but that form hasn't worked out and he went backwards under a penalty at Carlisle next time, dropping away over 1f out having pulled hard. Makes hurdle debut after 8 months off.

Form: B5/317-

Whataboutyeh¹⁵

Age: 5| Weight: 11-0| J: Jonathan England| T: S England

125/1

Irish point winner at the third attempt who looked one for later on when well held at Carlisle on recent hurdling debut.

Form: 331-8

They Call Me Pete³²¹

Age: 4| Weight: 10-13| J: Patrick Cowley⁽³⁾| T: L Morgan

150/1

Shirocco gelding who offered little in a junior bumper at Hereford on debut back in December, beaten soon after halfway. Has left Jimmy Fox ahead of hurdle debut.

Form: 6-

Tommy's Fortune³⁶

Age: 4| Weight: 10-13| J: Thomas Dowson| T: T Collier

100/1

Has shown some promise in bumpers but is bred for longer trips over jumps.

Form: 2-45

Emily Wade³¹

Age: 5| Weight: 10-7| J: Nathan Moscrop| T: T Collier

250/1

Just modest form at best in bumpers so looks up against it on this switch to hurdling.

Form: 444

Non-Runners

Burrows Hall¹⁸¹

Weight: 11-0| Age: 5

T: J Parkinson & S Smith J: Ross Chapman

Forecasts

Ukantango (6/5), Don Hollow (9/4), Royal Mogul (5/1), War Soldier (13/2), Burrows Hall (10/1), Copper Beach (33/1), Detective (33/1), Timetotalk (50/1), Tommy's Fortune (100/1), Whataboutyeh (125/1), They Call Me Pete (150/1), Emily Wade (250/1)

UKANTANGO landed the odds with the minimum of fuss on his Aintree hurdling debut in May and looks capable of defying a penalty with improvement on the cards. Don Hollow was value for a bit extra over the result in running down a couple of more prominently-ridden rivals in a C&D bumper, so commands plenty of respect now going hurdling, while Burrows Hall can also make his presence felt.
