Resumed winning ways in 2m novice hurdle at Chepstow back in February but failed to make a splash on her first outing in a handicap when well held in Grade 3 at Sandown a month later. Sights lowered for her return to action and not without hope.

Low-mileage 9-y-o who made all sporting a first-time tongue strap at Ffos Las in May 2021. Well held at this corresponding meeting when last seen (dropped away rapidly once headed) so percentage call is to look elsewhere with attentions turned back hurdling.

Yet to match his fairly useful winning hurdles form over fences and last seen being pulled at Newbury 19 months ago. Back over the smaller obstacles today but best watched.

Successful at Bangor and Warwick either side of his excellent second in the Grade 1 Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow last season. Shaped as if needing the run after 7 months off (had breathing operation in interim) when mid-field back at Chepstow 15 days ago so is one to consider.

Went winless last term but put up several decent performances in defeat. Rare-poor effort when last seen at Aintree back in May (found little) and will need to hit the ground running on this return to action.

Landed the odds in maiden company in late-2020/21 season and better form when placed twice switched to handicap company at up to 19.7f. Never settled off a steady pace at Kempton on Boxing Day so that tempers enthusiasm on his first outing for 10 months.

Likeable type who proved at least as good as ever sporting first-time blinkers when runner-up at Warwick when last seen back in February 2021, a late mistake costing him something like the margin of defeat. Watching brief advised after such a lengthy absence.

Showed little on first 5 appearances of the year but took advantage of a much-reduced mark at Southwell last month, leading approaching last and soon clear. Remains well treated on past exploits but wouldn't be an obvious type to follow up.

Yet to add to his Fontwell bumper win, but his form was on the up prior to a below par effort in a Newbury novice when last seen 11 months ago. Tongue tie replaces the cheekpieces worn last time and fresh could be the best time to catch him (had breathing operation in interim).

Best effort in bumpers at Ayr in November and made a successful debut over hurdles in a weak affair at Bangor (16.7f) the following month. Predictably found it tougher under a penalty at Fontwell last time and makes handicap debut/reappearance today.

Hurdles/dual chase winner who was badly out of sorts in December 2019 and showed nothing after 34 months off at Warwick last month. Impossible to fancy.

Let down by jumping on handicap debut but took a small step forward to get off the mark down in grade at Stratford (22f, good to soft) when last seen back in March. Up 7 lb but he's one to consider on reappearance.

Forecasts

The Changing Man (10/3), Saint Segal (4/1), Our Surprise (11/2), Breaking Waves (13/2), Stormy Flight (13/2), Bumpy Johnson (7/1), Current Mood (8/1), Minella Bobo (20/1), Chris Cool (22/1), Limited Reserve (80/1), Ballymagroarty Boy (100/1), Souriyan (100/1)

Verdict

David Pipe's lightly-raced BUMPY JOHNSON took his form up a notch when runner-up on handicap debut 11 months ago and, having had a breathing operation since last seen, fresh could be the best time to catch him with a first-time tongue tie applied. The Changing Man was last seen in winning action at Stratford in March so he heads the dangers with better to come, ahead of Saint Segal, who made a satisfactory return at Chepstow recently.
