C&D winner. 11/2, career best when winning 13-runner handicap at Newcastle (6f) 14 days ago, comfortably. Another personal best will be needed if he's to follow-up off this 8 lb higher mark.

C&D winner. 12/1, career best when winning 11-runner handicap at Windsor (6f, good) 12 days ago, helped by being held up in strongly-run race. 4 lb rise tolerable and another bold show likely.

Latest win at Sandown in August. Respectable sixth of 11 in handicap at Windsor (6f, good to firm, 16/1) 7 days ago, running on. Visor back on. Likely to find one or two too good.

Three wins from 5 runs this year. 85/40, didn't need to improve to win 5-runner handicap at Bath (5.7f, firm) 58 days ago, bit in hand. This looks more demanding up 5 lb.

Latest win at Doncaster in March. 16/1, good third of 11 in handicap at Windsor (6f, good to firm) 7 days ago. Makes tapeta debut and shouldn't be far away if he takes to this surface.

Two wins from 6 runs this year, the latest at Ripon in April. Creditable 2½ lengths third of 11 to Badri in handicap (10/1) at this C&D 50 days ago and meets that rival on 9 lb better terms here. Big player.

Good second of 12 in handicap at Goodwood (6f, good to firm, 16/1) 40 days ago, finishing well. Reproduction of that effort would put him firmly in the picture.

Forecasts

Badri (4/1), Watchya (11/2), Tommy de Vito (6/1), King Of Tonga (7/1), The Lamplighter (7/1), Seven Brothers (10/1), Zero Carbon (10/1), Ava Go Joe (10/1), Water Of Leith (12/1), Mokaatil (16/1), Fai Fai (20/1), Tyger Bay (25/1), Astro Jakk (33/1)

Verdict

THE LAMPLIGHTER has found just one too good on three of his four starts this year and is taken to deservedly get his head in front here. George Baker's charge was just touched off in the Stewards' Cup consolation race at Glorious Goodwood last time, form which is up there with the best on offer in this contest. Ava Go Joe was third behind Badri over C&D in July, but has a good chance of reversing those placings now 9 lb better off. He is second choice ahead of Tommy de Vito and King of Tonga.
