Unibet Summer Plate Handicap Chase (Grade 3) (GBB Race)

Off time: 15:16 | Winning time: 5m 16.40s

Light N Strike⁵⁶

Age: 6| Weight: 12-0| J: J R Wildman⁽⁷⁾| T: Miss E C Lavelle| OR: 139

16/1

Decisive winner of two of his three starts since returning from a break. 7 lb rise for latest success at Stratford (19.4f, good to soft) doesn't look excessive, but this is a much deeper race.

Form: 1231-31

Peregrine Run^b²⁰

Age: 12| Weight: 12-0| J: Sean Flanagan| T: Peter Fahey| OR: 139| D

25/1

Smashing campaigner who added to his tally on the Flat last summer. Has performed with credit in handicaps at Ballinrobe at Cartmel back in this sphere the last twice, but looks vulnerable for win purposes here.

Form: 280-533

Francky Du Berlais^t²⁰

Age: 9| Weight: 12-0| J: James Bowen| T: P & M Bowen| OR: 139| CD

5/1

Bagged this prize off 2 lb lower 12 months ago and added to his tally at Uttoxeter in April. Not disgraced back at that course last time and likely he has been primed for another bold show in this valuable contest.

Form: 074-153

Manofthemountain⁴⁸

Age: 9| Weight: 11-13| J: Thomas Bellamy| T: Miss E C Lavelle| OR: 138| D

13/2

Below par during the spring, but returned from a break/wind op with a solid effort at Uttoxeter (2½m, good) where he found just one too good in a competitive handicap. Solid each-way chance.

Form: 1/2885-2

Rapid Response^p⁵⁰

Age: 8| Weight: 11-8| J: Sean O'Keeffe| T: Mrs J Harrington| OR: 133| D

28/1

Useful chaser in Ireland when on-song, but more miss than hit since landing a mares' handicap chase at Punchestown last spring and others make more appeal here.

Form: 97494-3

Mortlach^t³⁶

Age: 7| Weight: 11-5| J: P J Brennan| T: F O'Brien| OR: 130

7/1

Warwick maiden hurdle winner in April and has taken very well to fences, making it 3-3 in this sphere at Aintree (19.9f, good) last month. 6 lb rise for that is fair enough and he remains open to improvement as a chaser.

Form: 221-111

Al Roc^b,t⁵

Age: 11| Weight: 11-5| J: T Scudamore| T: D Pipe| OR: 130| BF| CD

25/1

Kept busy and a real success story over fences this year, recording win number four in dominant fashion over this C&D on penultimate start. Below par back hurdling at Newton Abbot recently, though, and he may find this too competitive.

Form: 817212

Tardree^t²⁶

Age: 8| Weight: 11-3| J: David Noonan| T: L Morgan| OR: 128| C

22/1

Wide-margin winner of a four-runner handicap chase over 19f on latest visit here last summer. In good form over hurdles since returning from a break, but on a tough-looking mark back in this sphere.

Form: 125-221

Texard^t³^{(ex 5)}

Age: 7| Weight: 11-3| J: Philip Armson⁽⁵⁾| T: D Pipe| OR: 123

11/2

Successful four times over fences in France and has sprouted wings for present connections the last twice. Dominant from the front at Uttoxeter (2½m, good) on Wednesday and merits serious consideration under a penalty.

Form: 1-23411

Mahler's Promise²⁹

Age: 7| Weight: 11-2| J: M G Nolan| T: J W Mullins| OR: 127| CD

15/2

Won at Newton Abbot last summer and deservedly doubled his tally in this sphere with a career-best performance over C&D 29 days ago. This is more demanding up 5 lb, but should give a good account all the same.

Form: 3533-31

Licklighter^t²⁹

Age: 11| Weight: 11-2| J: B S Hughes| T: L Morgan| OR: 127| C

33/1

Four-time chase winner, the latest a Perth handicap last June. Off the mark at the twenty-third attempt over hurdles when running away with a 2f novice here last month, but much more on his plate back in this sphere.

Form: 2134-51

La Domaniale¹¹

Age: 6| Weight: 11-0| J: Jonjo O'Neill Jr.| T: J & A O'Neill| OR: 125

8/1

Fair hurdler who has improved immediately for switch to fences. Produced a good round of jumping when accounting for her two rivals in good style at Uttoxeter (2½m, good) recently and there should be better to come from this 5-y-o.

Form: 643-121

Statuario²⁹

Age: 7| Weight: 10-10| J: S Bowen| T: P & M Bowen| OR: 121

10/1

Has found just one too good on each of his three starts since returning from a break in April, most recently chasing home Mahler's Promise over this C&D. However, good deal more needed if he's to resume winning ways.

Form: 48P-222

Rostello^p,t⁶^{(ex 5)}

Age: 7| Weight: 10-2| J: Cillin Leonard⁽⁵⁾| T: Dr R D P Newland| OR: 107

11/1

Dual winner over fences last term and did the job in fine style at Stratford (22.6f, good) last weekend. That performance was on par with the pick of his French efforts and he has to enter calculations under a penalty.

Form: 131P-41

Forecasts

Francky Du Berlais (5/1), Texard (11/2), Manofthemountain (13/2), Mortlach (7/1), Mahler's Promise (15/2), La Domaniale (8/1), Statuario (10/1), Rostello (11/1), Light N Strike (16/1), Tardree (22/1), Peregrine Run (25/1), Al Roc (25/1), Rapid Response (28/1), Licklighter (33/1)

There should be more to come from LA DOMANIALE, who made it 2-3 over fences in good style at Uttoxeter 11 days ago and this 5 lb higher mark should be well within her reach. This is a quick turnaround for Texard, but he was also an emphatic winner at Uttoxeter recently and is greatly respected, while Mortlach is 3-3 in this sphere and needs considering. Manofthemountain and last year's winner Francky du Berlais both make each-way appeal.
