Shaped well when runner-up in a Thirsk novice on reappearance 49 days ago, never nearer having conceded first run. Upped in trip for this handicap debut and is in top hands, so he remains with potential.

Off 6 months and gelded ahead of making winning debut for yard (formerly with Tom Dascombe) in 1m handicap at Redcar in April. Confirmed that improvement when third at Doncaster 2 weeks ago and likely to be thereabouts again if seeing out this longer trip.

Age: 3|  Weight: 9-7| J: P J McDonald| T: S & E Crisford| OR:  79| BF
Has already hinted at a bit of temperament but showed improved form upped in trip on handicap debut when second at Lingfield (10f, AW) 18 days ago, conceding first run. Hit with 4 lb rise but may do better still.

Age: 3|  Weight: 9-6| J: F Norton| T: C & M Johnston| OR:  78
Wolverhampton maiden winner (7f) who ran best race when edged out only in the dying strides in a Lingfield nursery (1m, AW) on final outing in October. Longer trip likely to suit on pedigree and in the mix.

Wootton'sun14
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-5| J: O J Orr| T: R A Fahey| OR:  77| D
Left 2yo exploits behind when scoring in a handicap at Doncaster on return, all out having still seemed green under pressure. Not in the same form taking on significantly better company at Newbury but it's far too soon to be writing him off.

Age: 3|  Weight: 9-3| J: R Havlin| T: C Hills| OR:  75
Fair maiden who failed to improve upped in trip on handicap debut at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 60 days ago. Others more persuasive.

Brazilian Beach18
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-11| J: D Allan| T: T D Easterby| OR:  69
Fair maiden who has run respectably both starts for new yard this term but is starting to look exposed. Longer trip needs to bring about improvement on handicap debut.

Forecasts

Broadspear (9/4), Roudemental (3/1), Kaatibb (5/1), Wootton'sun (7/1), Brazilian Beach (8/1), Sharp Combo (10/1), Killearn (10/1)

Verdict

BROADSPEAR shaped well after 8 months off when runner-up in a Thirsk maiden and, with this longer trip likely to be in range, he gets the nod to go one better on handicap debut. Wootton'sun could still have more to offer and is not taken lightly now returning to slightly calmer waters, while Roudemental's recent third at Doncaster is backed up by the clock and he's unlikely to be far away if seeing out this longer trip, too.
