Cazoo Handicap Hurdle

Off time: 15:31 | Winning time: 5m 5.12s

Midnight Callisto^t²⁸

Age: 6| Weight: 11-12| J: Ben Godfrey⁽⁵⁾| T: A J Honeyball| OR: 100| BF

7/2

Fairly useful bumper winner, but she has proved expensive to follow and there were no real excuses when sixth of 18 on return/first run following a wind op at Exeter (16.7f). Tongue strap refitted.

Form: 3/3448-6

Mountain Hawk^h1¹⁸¹

Age: 9| Weight: 11-12| J: Daniel Hiskett⁽³⁾| T: C Ellam| OR: 100

250/1

Out of sorts over fences for Gavin Cromwell in Ireland when last seen in the summer. Can only be watched now starting out for a new yard in a first-time hood.

Form: 86P0-FP

Unblinking²⁸⁵

Age: 8| Weight: 11-5| J: Jordan Nailor⁽³⁾| T: R Bevis| OR: 93

25/1

It's been a couple of years since he got seriously competitive and he was well held at Fontwell (19.2f) when last seen in February.

Form: 080/655-

Mandalayan²⁵²

Age: 6| Weight: 11-4| J: G Sheehan| T: W Greatrex| OR: 92

11/1

Sole win from 16 starts on the Flat was gained on the AW. Record in this sphere stands at 0-11, but he has been given a chance by the handicapper and will be a threat if fully tuned-up here.

Form: P66808-

Classic Tune^t²⁴⁴

40/1

Surprise C&D winner last December, but ended that campaign on a low-key note and record when fresh hardly augurs well ahead of this seasonal reappearance.

Form: P/P9140-

Commander Miller²²⁸

Age: 7| Weight: 11-2| J: Page Fuller| T: Mrs D O'Neill| OR: 90WS

50/1

Claims judged on bits and pieces of form, not least when runner-up off this mark at Warwick last September. However, well held when last seen 7 months ago (wind op since) and he's 0-13 over hurdles.

Form: 027037-

Denable²²

Age: 5| Weight: 11-1| J: J M Quinlan| T: A Carson| OR: 89

33/1

Modest in bumpers/on the Flat and hasn't shown much in a trio of appearances over hurdles to date.

Form: 868-866

Thundersockssundae^p1¹⁸

Age: 6| Weight: 10-13| J: P J Brennan| T: F O'Brien| OR: 87| BF

5/2

Turned over at odds-on when returning to action for new yard at Worcester (2½m) recently. Still, that effort represented a step forward all the same and claims if new headgear has the desired effect.

Form: 70927-2

Black Lightning^b⁴¹

Age: 8| Weight: 10-11| J: Tabitha Worsley⁽⁵⁾| T: G Howell| OR: 85

10/1

Returned to form when notching third hurdles success at Fontwell (21.8f) last time, finding more for pressure than is often the case. Nudged up just 2 lb, but not certain to be in the same form here.

Form: 317871

Unit Sixtyfour³⁵

Age: 6| Weight: 10-11| J: K Brogan⁽³⁾| T: B Pauling| OR: 85

8/1

Runner-up on second start in Irish points and though yet to trouble the judge following 3 starts under Rules, it'll be interesting to see how he fares in the betting on this handicap debut.

Form: P2/67-8

Irish Sovereign^b1²⁵

Age: 6| Weight: 10-11| J: Nick Scholfield| T: Mrs S J Humphrey| OR: 85

50/1

Appears to be pretty limited judged on efforts in maiden/novice hurdles, and fared little better tried over fences in a Fontwell handicap earlier this month. Blinkers enlisted.

Form: 6/3-635

Time Is Time²¹

Age: 12| Weight: 10-6| J: Conor Ring⁽³⁾| T: Miss Sarah Robinson| OR: 80| D

200/1

Lost his way in Ireland and there are very few positives to glean from his 2 efforts since joining this yard.

Form: 6U00/0-7

Global Protektor³³

Age: 4| Weight: 10-6| J: Harry Skelton| T: D Skelton| OR: 81

33/1

Will need to leave the form of his 3 qualifying runs over hurdles well behind in order to make an impact on this handicap debut, but that's entirely possible given the yard he represents.

Form: 850

Ulysses^v¹⁸

Age: 7| Weight: 10-5| J: B S Hughes| T: D Shaw| OR: 79| D

14/1

Gained first win since 2019 at Worcester in July, but form has dipped badly since and it's probably best to look elsewhere, for all that he's 1-1 under Brian Hughes.

Form: 081504

Killane³⁶

Age: 6| Weight: 10-4| J: Peter Kavanagh⁽⁷⁾| T: D McCain Jnr| OR: 78| D

5/1

Much improved when making a winning handicap debut at Ayr (19.5f) last month. That wasn't much of a race, but a 4 lb rise looks fair and this 6-y-o should have more to offer.

Form: 00-601

True Thoughts^t¹⁸

Age: 6| Weight: 10-3| J: Mitchell Bastyan⁽³⁾| T: Mrs L J Young| OR: 77| D

14/1

Caused a surprise when opening hurdles account at Wincanton (19.7f) in November 2019. More miss than hit since, but latest effort at Worcester was good enough to make him of interest here.

Form: 54P9/5-3

Forecasts

Thundersockssundae (5/2), Midnight Callisto (7/2), Killane (5/1), Unit Sixtyfour (8/1), Black Lightning (10/1), Mandalayan (11/1), True Thoughts (14/1), Ulysses (14/1), Unblinking (25/1), Denable (33/1), Global Protektor (33/1), Classic Tune (40/1), Irish Sovereign (50/1), Commander Miller (50/1), Time Is Time (200/1), Mountain Hawk (250/1)

KILLANE still looked rough around the edges when scoring on his handicap debut at Ayr and while this is a tougher assignment he has gone up just 4 lb and further improvement should be forthcoming. Donald McCain's charge is marginally preferred to Unit Sixtyfour, who could himself be about to take a step forward now pitched into a handicap. Thundersockssundae and Mandalayan are others to consider.
