Too green to do himself justice in a couple of runs on the AW for John Gosden earlier this year and ran to just a fair level on yard debut when fourth at Doncaster in July. Makes handicap debut.

Thirteen runs since last win in 2019. 12/1, possibly still needed the run when fifth of 8 in handicap at this C&D 33 days ago. Handicapper has given him a chance and he could feature.

Winner at Bath in August. Not in same form when fifth of 6 in handicap at Salisbury (14.2f, good, 11/1) 33 days ago. Easy to look elsewhere.

15/8, failed to meet expectations when fifth of 7 in handicap at Windsor (11.4f, good to firm) back in April. Not taken lightly back on the all-weather provided he's ready to roll.

Ran poorly when ninth of 10 in handicap (11/1) at this course (8f) 18 days ago, in trouble a long way out after meeting trouble soon after the start. Significantly up in trip.

Predictably wasn't in the same form as previously when ninth of 12 in handicap at Goodwood (11.2f, good to firm, 20/1) 15 days ago. Looks competitive, but not one for maximum faith.

Lightly-raced maiden. Shaped as if better for the run when sixth of 9 on handicap debut at Newmarket (10f, good, 33/1) 26 days ago. This run should give a better idea of her prospects.

Lightly-raced maiden on Flat. Tongue strap on for 1st time, best effort when third of 7 in handicap at Wolverhampton (12.2f, 40/1) 18 days ago. Not dismissed if building on that effort.

Forecasts

Theyazin (9/4), Thematic (4/1), Blue Medici (7/1), Magua (8/1), Eagles Dare (9/1), Riverfront (9/1), Gustave Aitch (16/1), Montaqem (20/1), Escobedo (20/1), Temple Lock (25/1), Candlemas (25/1), Ballybaymoonshiner (33/1), Heaton Chapel (100/1)

Verdict

Cases can be made for several but RIVERFRONT gets the nod to double his career tally. Andrew Balding's charge has dropped to an attractive mark and, provided he's ready to roll, he can make a winning reappearance after 5 months off the track. Thematic possibly still needed the outing when fifth over C&D last month so he's feared most, ahead of handicap-debutants Magua and Theyazin.

  1. RIVERFRONT (FR)
  2. THEMATIC (USA)
  3. MAGUA
