Western House Hotel Handicap (Div 1)
Class 5 | 1m | Good to Soft (Soft in places) | 13 Runners | Turf
Off time: 16:58 | Winning time: 1m 43.55s
Returned to form when second of 5 in claimer (13/2) at Yarmouth (6f, good to firm) 3 days ago, though typical lacked the heart to go past the winner. Significantly back up in trip.
40/1, last of 11 in handicap at Musselburgh (8f, good) 6 days ago. Struggling for form at present.
Twelve runs since last win in 2019. Respectable second of 13 in handicap at Chester (7.6f, good to soft, 5/1) 7 days ago, running on. Capable from this mark when things go his way.
Is hard to trust but looked unlucky not to finish closer when ninth of 20 in minor event at Doncaster (8f, good, 20/1) 9 days ago, slowly away.
Took advantage of a much-reduced mark at Ripon earlier in the month, but checked out tamely when well held at Haydock 9 days later.
28/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, very good second of 13 in handicap at Musselburgh (8f, good) 12 days ago, finishing well. One to bear in mind.
Cheekpieces on for 1st time, below form seventh of 12 in handicap at this course (10f, good to soft, 17/2) 25 days ago, going off too hard. Better judged on previous form.
Found a little more improvement to open his account in 9-runner handicap at Leicester (7f, good to soft, 2/1) 11 days ago by neck from House Deposit. Should go well again.
C&D winner. Creditable fifth of 9 in handicap at Wolverhampton (7.2f, 33/1) 16 days ago. Potentially well treated but needs to up his game.
Back to something like his best when neck second of 9 to Sorbonne in handicap at Leicester (7f, good to soft, 4/1) 11 days ago.
2 wins from 2 runs this year. Didn't need to improve to win 12-runner handicap (11/4) at this C&D (good to soft) 1 day ago, keeping on well. Carries penalty. Not taken lightly.
Below form fifth of 9 in handicap at this course (7.2f, heavy, 13/2) 44 days ago, though not persevered with once held. He's probably in better heart than his recent form figures suggest.
Still looking for first success but was possibly unsuited by conditions when well held at Beverley 22 days ago.
George Ridsdale (1/1), Pacino (13/2), Vive La Difference (15/2), Blonde Warrior (8/1), Sorbonne (10/1), Bringitonboris (20/1), Engles Rock (20/1), House Deposit (25/1), Mustaqbal (25/1), Itwouldberudenotto (28/1), Strong Steps (33/1), Let Right Be Done (33/1), Jungle Book (66/1), Real Smooth (80/1)
PACINO has been shaping up well of late and is clearly capable from this sort of mark, so he receives the vote. Engles Rock is also weighted to strike, so she's a threat, as is George Ridsdale, though his task is actually tougher after he followed up his Newcastle win here on Thursday.
