Dual soft ground winner (1m/1m2f) who is 6lb higher than the more recent of those, at Ayr last month. Held from today's mark back there last time, but faster ground wouldn't have been ideal for him. Can't rule him out back on soft.
Four-time AW winner at around 1m, but yet to win from 11 attempts on turf. Has gone close on soft ground, and is being given a chance by the handicapper, so not ruled out despite his turf maiden status.
Multiple winner over 1m-1m2f, on good ground or softer. However, hasn't scored since April 2018, nor have there been many near misses of late. Not written off if repeating his Ripon effort from June.
Won two of his first three starts last year (5f, heavy/6f, good to firm) but well held in all but one run since, in the face of some stiff tasks. His 3yo allowance plus a 3lb drop gives him a squeak here, however, so don't rule him out.
Scored last year when trained in France (1m3f, good). Has come up with a couple of respectable efforts this season, without yet looking like winning. Handicapper already relenting, but probably needs to do so further.
Triple winner over 7½f-1m1f, twice on good to soft. Went very close at Beverley last time out and from the same mark he is entitled to plenty of respect.
Scored here (1m½f, soft) last September on his third novice start, for Karl Burke. Was beaten just 1L from 5lb higher in a Newcastle handicap after that. Respectable stable debut here last time and not ruled out with blinkers now fitted.
Triple winner from 7f-1m2f and acts on slow ground. 4lb higher than when scoring at Haydock on his penultimate start. Held in better company last time, but not ruled out if he can shrug off that lesser effort.
Has won two of his three starts for this trainer, both of them here over 1m½f. Has gone up another 3lb for the latest success (soft; 0-75), but front pair were clear and he looks likely to be a big player again.
Scored here (1m½f, soft) last September in a 0-75, when 3lb lower. Well below that level in two runs since, so returns to the scene of his sole success with a bit to prove.
C&D scorer on heavy this time last year, winning a 0-90 fillies' handicap easily. On an eight-race losing run since then, however, but is now back on a very competitive mark, so it may not do to be writing her off.
6f Southwell (AW) winner on his handicap debut last year, when 9lb lower. Was last seen running a good race in defeat at Newcastle (1m, AW) last November. Record when fresh is so far moderate, so perhaps he is one to watch this time.
Fast ground Carlisle winner (7f) 12-months ago, when also on today's mark. Again went close last time out here (1m½f, good) and looks one to consider after that. Acts on testing ground.
Scored on her second juvenile start in a Catterick fillies' novice event (7f, soft) last October. Not disgraced on her handicap debut last time at Haydock (1m, good). Drops 2lb over a slightly longer trip, and is not ruled out.
Showed signs of ability on her first two starts, in particular her reappearance at Haydock (1m2f, good), when a 5L fourth. However, well held back there from this mark on her handicap debut last time, so now plenty to prove.
Forecasts
Poet's Dawn (5/1), Pour Me A Drink (6/1), Ralphy Boy Two (13/2), Iffraaz (13/2), Granite City Doc (7/1), Bound For Heaven (15/2), Sootability (11/1), Humbert (12/1), Gulf Of Poets (14/1), Our Girl Sheila (18/1), Sarvi (22/1), Termonator (33/1), Modakhar (33/1), Kingson (33/1), Sister Midnight (40/1)
An open-looking race and it could be worth chancing MODAKHAR, who is on a handy mark based on his best form, took a step back in the right direction last time, and could be galvanised by the fitting of headgear. Pour Me A Drink and Granite City Doc could both be big players, while Ralphy Boy Two, Sootability, Iffraaz and Sarvi are others to consider.
- Modakhar
- Granite City Doc
- Pour Me A Drink
