Some mildly promising form with previous handler but can be a tricky customer. Well down the field in three starts this term and now stepped up markedly in trip in bid for revival.
Went markedly backwards last year and did not show signs of that stopping when 19L sixth in Wolverhampton seller (1m) in March. Absent since and back markedly up in trip for this.
Third on the AW back in 2018 but not up to any competitive level since. Took another backward step when seventh in 2m Chepstow handicap last time and makes limited appeal.
Struggled for form towards the end of last season and throughout the winter but took a step in the right way when second in 1m4f handicap here last time out. Eased a further 1lb but there is a stamina question.
Game winner of this race last year and only seen twice since. Well-beaten on seasonal return at Newcastle (2m) last month but that was on return from layoff and only 1lb above last years winning mark.
Game winner on seasonal return at Chelmsford (1m5f) but struggled off 4lb higher mark on turf at Catterick (2m) last month. No respite in weights but does return to AW surface.
A winner over staying trips on the flat before but disappointed on last Flat start at Leicester (1m4f) in June. Had two spins over hurdles with little success and might be best watched in this.
Remains very lightly raced for an eight-year-old and mainly struggling. Fared a little better when fifth over C&D last month but needs another step up.
Now 1-19 on the flat but showed encouraging signs when keeping on fourth in C&D handicap in July. Down 2lb for that so must be considered for each-way appeal.
Only one success in her career to date. Not a bad sixth over C&D in January but disappointed when last seen at Kempton (2m) later that month. Needs more on return from absence.
Has only raced five times and showed better signs on second handicap start when 5L fifth at Bath (1m6f) last month. Off the same rating for this so might need a little more.
No wins or placed-efforts after eight runs now and struggled in 1m4f Wolverhampton handicap last time out. Looks to have his abilities exposed now.
Very good handicap debut when narrow second at Kempton (1m4f). Two no shows since but viable excuses last time and every chance this trip could bring out more in him.
Not the most inspiring form in his first couple of starts but took marked step up when neck second at Chepstow (1m4f) last time. Trip should be no issue at this track and is shortlisted.
Forecasts
Anno Lucis (5/2), Arlecchino's Arc (7/2), Call My Bluff (11/2), Affair (10/1), Roudrapour (10/1), Ginger Box (16/1), Aleatoric (16/1), Phoenix Dawn (18/1), Steel Helmet (20/1), Global Rock (20/1), Byron Green (28/1), Sweet Nature (28/1), No Dress Rehearsal (40/1), Bazooka (150/1)
A race in which plenty of the principles have questions to answer, it may be worth taking a punt with ANNO LUCIS. Despite two poor efforts recently where he has shown an effort to race tardily, his Kempton effort on handicap debut is one of the most encouraging form lines on offer and the blinkers could irk out desired sharpness for a shrewd trainer. Steel Helmet is only off 1lb higher mark for his win in this race last year and there is every chance he could come on for his comeback effort at Newcastle, while the likes of Call My Bluff and Ginger Box ran their best races in this company last time and might have progression left in them.
- Anno Lucis
- Steel Helmet
- Call My Bluff
