Proved a disappointment at York (10.3f) in a race he had won the previous year having not really fired on the AW earlier in the year, a break not refreshing him. Resides on his last winning mark, looks to be something of a cloud over him currently.
Has for the most part shown some smart form this year (already a three-time winner at up to 12f). Has the odd blip on dance card this year but like many from this yard is quick to bounce back, comes here off a fine second to progressive stablemate.
Caught the eye on his reappearance over 10f on the Rowley Mile quickly confirming that promise with a win over the same C&D. Shaped well again last time but did find the 9lb rise for his previous win anchoring him at York (10.3f), stiff task again.
Struck form quickly when joining this yard his C&D win providing the first leg of a handicap hat-trick in 2018. Only won once since but held his form well through last year, not seen since finishing respectable eighth to Pivoine at York last July.
Found his mojo on the AW earlier in the year completing a hat-trick over progressively longer trips the last at 12f off a 5lb lower mark. Can look a little quirky and his temperament may have got the better of him last time at Haydock, doubts remain.
Multiple winner in Italy at up to 9f, yet to strike in GB although he has run some sound races including on his penultimate start when bumping into the improving Desert Icon. Never dangerous at York (10.3f) last time, shade too high in the weights.
C&D winner who isn't the force of old but is still capable of some fair form as shown by his Newbury win returning from a nine-month break in June off 4lb lower. Shaped well enough at Goodwood last time, has work to do with Sky Defender on that firm.
Switched to a new yard from Ian Williams after suffering a bitterly disappointing 2019, running as if amiss last when last seen at Doncaster (reported to have bled). Attractively weighted now 10lb below his last winning mark, note a market move.
Off the mark for the season last time at Newmarket (July, 10f) winning off a mark that had previously looked beyond him. Showed a good attitude but now forced up to a career-high mark in a tougher race than last time, others have stronger claims.

Useful contest with the two C&D winners in the race looking to face fairly stiff tasks, Assheq likely to need the race on return and Restorer looking to have a stiff task off this mark. Pivoine couldn’t follow up last year’s John Smith’s Cup win off a 2lb higher mark and he has work to do with Desert Icon on that form although that one for all his progressive nature looks anchored by a rise in the weights for a Newmarket win. SKY DEFENDER was behind Desert Icon last time but in typical fashion for one from his stable bounced straight back to run a tremendous second to stablemate Maydanny at Goodwood. Shabeeb needs noting for a market move on stable debut for an owner who loves this venue.
