Running well in the main without winning of late. On a long losing run and while he is vulnerable to less exposed sorts he looks a solid each-way contender once again with jockey booking a plus.

0-5 since entering handicaps and he has quite a bit to prove on return from seven month absence. This is his first time in a class five so he may appreciate the ease in grade but he does have a lot to prove.

Form of his second over 1m at this track in February has been well advertised by the winner since. Out of form in two subsequent starts, but he did show slightly more when midfield at Newbury (1m; good) on second run back from a break.

Hasn't looked back since entering handicaps last year & he followed up what was an encouraging reappearance effort to get back to winning ways at Wolverhampton (7f; standard) last time out. On a career high mark now but should remain competitive.

Broke his duck on the AW two starts ago at Kempton (7f; standard to slow) & then wasn't disgraced in defeat when third at that track in March. Makes return from short break off the same mark. Market check advised.

Looks to be paying the price for his two wins at Kempton (7f; standard to slow) back in March/June. Handicapper still not showing any signs of relenting (still 7lb above last winning mark) so perhaps one to oppose for the time being.

In very consistent form prior to only beating one home when ninth of 10 at Kempton (7f; standard to slow). That was a slight rise in grade so she should appreciate the return to class five company. Likely place contender.

Dropped 2lb for most recent run which was actually a slight step back in the right direction when he finished fourth at Kempton (6f; standard to slow). Tends to show his better form over 6f so the return to 7f not necessarily a positive.

This is a slight ease in grade compared to the race he made his handicap debut in when fifth at Doncaster (1m; good to firm). AW debut & drop back to 7f are other factors to consider with him. Not fully discounted.

Almost broke his duck on penultimate start when second at Kempton (1m; standard to slow) but unable to reproduce that level of form when well held at Windsor (1m; good to firm) last time. Unexposed at 7f but has questions to answer.

10-race maiden who recently failed to back up what was an encouraging effort on his seasonal reappearance at Chelmsford (7f; standard) when only beaten a nose. Return to the AW could help him recapture that form though. Place claims.

Gavi Di Gavi (3/1), Atletico (4/1), Redemptive (5/1), Afro Blue (11/2), Kodiac Pride (9/1), The Right Choice (10/1), In The Red (10/1), Bullington Boy (10/1), King's View (11/1), Broughtons Flare (12/1), Siberian Night (12/1), Javelin (14/1), I'm Digby (25/1), Merweb (25/1)

Verdict

He has a 153-day break to defy but Broughtons Flare was in the best form he had shown for a while at Kempton at the start of the year. The consistent Atletico has solid place claims again given he never usually runs a bad race, and the booking of Hollie Doyle is another positive. Afro Blue is not one to give up on yet. He is still lightly raced and showed slight encouragement on his handicap debut without threatening. The drop in trip to 7f & ease in class could see some improvement. However, in a race lacking strength in depth this can go to GAVI DI GAVI who has just kept improving since switched to handicaps and can defy a 6lb rise for his latest success.
  1. Gavi Di Gavi
  2. Afro Blue
  3. Atletico
