Despite not having won for over three years (1-19 career) he is going through a good spell at the moment. Came from well off the pace at Hamilton (9.2f) last time to finish third (would have gone closer with clear run), quirky but considered.

Took advantage of a much-reduced mark to score over 1m at Redcar (second run back from a break), continued in good heart since. Came from a long way off the pace over C&D last time (finished fifth behind The Trendy Man), quirky, can be slow away.

Improved on turf/stable debut over 1m at Pontefract, looking the type to improve for further and the chance to go handicapping. Gets a relatively lowly mark in relation to her pedigree for handicap debut, note positive market vibes in this scenario.

Not quite moved forward as expected in handicaps with little discernible progress last time from his handicap debut. Visor retained possibly in response to tame finishing effort having been well positioned, nudged up 2lb, others offer more.

Back down to her last winning mark obtained when winning at Nottingham (6.1f) just over a year ago. Well held in first-time cheekpieces when last seen on AW over 6f now steps up significantly in trip, hard to see her staying this far.

Not quite made the progress that she has promised in handicaps as yet and looked rather rusty back from a break last time (turf debut). Possible to take a positive view of her earlier handicap runs, one who could improve here having had an outing.

Produced her best effort so far when second here last time to a previous winner staying on well although still beaten 6L. Had offered little prior to that C&D start, benefitted from a good tactical position, bred to be better than this mark.

After a year off offered something to work on making his handicap debut off a lowly mark but one in keeping with his 2yo exploits. Better that the 9.5L he was beaten, now hooded first-time (failed to settle early last time), given a tougher test.

Course winner (12.1f, seller), not won since that 2014 victory and intermittently seen over the past few years (may not be the easiest to train), returns from a wind op/significant absence. Will surely need the run, makes very limited appeal.

Looked poor until dropped in trip at Ripon (9.8f) last time to win a weak classified event showing some improved form. Cheekpieces worn last two starts are retained as he tries handicaps for the second time, fair pedigree, may offer a little more.

first-time straight after his C&D win last time when cheekpieces were refitted. Fortunate winner (second looked unlucky) having had the run of the race, 2lb higher, unlikely to get such a soft lead on this occasion, do well to follow up.

Forecasts

Najashee (7/2), Anno Maximo (9/2), Dangeroffizz (5/1), Puckle (6/1), Bank Holiday (17/2), Global Exceed (10/1), Despoina (11/1), Amelia R (14/1), The Trendy Man (16/1), William Alexander (25/1), Aneedh (150/1)

Verdict

This looks a stronger heat than the first division with one or two of the 3yo’s looking as though they could improve on their performances so far. Despoina is the only handicap newcomer but she looks interesting entering this sphere having run well at Pontefract last time. BANK HOLIDAY could well come on for her reappearance and this looks more her trip for the moment and she’s more capable than her form figures would suggest. Dangeroffizz and the C&D winner The Trendy Man will have their supporters but both have to improve again in a deeper contest than either won in last time. Najashee and Global Exceed look the pick of the older horses although both need everything to go their own way.
  1. Bank Holiday
  2. Despoina
  3. Najashee
