By Sea The Stars and won a Newmarket maiden on debut last year; also-ran in the 2,000 Guineas on return but back on track with 1m4f AW second at Kempton this month. Has his chance on the formbook.

Bossed things from the front when landing a Newmarket novice over similar trip 34 days ago; represents bang in-form William Haggas yard and big player despite tough opening mark.

Winning return/handicap bow at Yarmouth in June and fancied for Listed C&D event next time (third behind Khalifa Sat); runner-up since at Ascot (1m4f, good) in first-time blinkers (retained) and perhaps Dettori can extract the best from him.

Missed out on a protracted hat-trick at Haydock early in the month with no apparent excuse for that lacklustre run; could possibly bounce back.

Benefitted from a truly run race at when scoring Haydock a fortnight ago (earlier run behind Zabeel Champion boosted here yesterday); right up in the weights for that decisive success and rates a major contender again.

Stayed on stoutly for last-to-first Windsor success under the champion jockey at the start of the month; backing up two previously solid efforts in better races. Raised 6lb and in a tougher race here.

Won a 1m Chelmsford novice in January on third start; bit disappointing in two runs upped in distance since returning from the racing break and opposed despite further easing from the assessor.

Came home 8L second to Al Qaqaa at Newmarket in late June having been hampered early and sat last of five; could well close that gap down with improvement and getting weight. Ryan Moore stays on board.

Narrowly denied here in June (1m2f, good to firm; 18-1) on return post wind surgery/winter break; only second since in four-runner Bath maiden (11-10fav) and will need to find a bit more in this contest.

Forecasts

Al Qaqaa (5/4), Mafia Power (11/2), Cepheus (6/1), Celestran (13/2), The First King (8/1), Berkshire Savvy (9/1), Moomba (10/1), First Impression (25/1), Aquascape (33/1), Summit Reach (40/1)

Verdict

Al Qaqaa did things nicely from the front at Newmarket in a novice contest, though he was entitled to as odds-on favourite. He's not been handed a penalty kick from this opening mark and runner-up Moomba may get much closer for Ryan Moore on the revised terms now handicapping. MAFIA POWER has been solid and improved to win well at Haydock a fortnight ago when getting a decent pace to aim at. The Gleneagles colt looks like he'll appreciate this longer trip and can maintain his progress despite a chunky ratings-hike. Celestran seems to have his quirks but he won't lack in the saddle and can give a solid account.
