Sprung minor surprise when a 20-1 winner of this contest last year. That renewal was probably a weaker contest, though she ran admirably in defeat afterwards in the Irish Champion/Qipco Champion Stakes. Should strip fitter for recent comeback run.

No obvious reason to see her reversing the form with Nazeef and Queen Power who finished comfortably clear of her at Royal Ascot. Could strip fitter and may improve for the step up to 1m2f but that can be said for a few in this field. Opposed.

Slight fitness edge on Deirdre when finishing in front of that mare in the Eclipse at Sandown (1m2f; good to firm). This is easier but she tends to come up short at this level and Ryan Moore prefers Fancy Blue.

Unbeaten since finishing third on debut (6-7 overall) last year. Came home strongly when showing she handles ground with juice in to win the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket (1m; soft). That offers some hope she will get this trip & a major player.

Third behind Nazeef in the Duke Of Cambridge at Royal Ascot (1m; good). Difficult to see her reversing the form but does stay the trip (won over 1m2f last year). Tough task against higher-rated rivals on these terms.

Receives a hefty 9lb from her elders. Achieved a career-best to take overall record to 3-4 when improving for the step up to this trip to beat Alpine Star & Peaceful in the Prix De Diane at Chantilly (1m2f; good to soft).

Disappointed when evidently more was expected of her (sent off 6/4f) when she only managed to finish fifth of eight at the Curragh (1m1f; good) on first try at Group Two level. Difficult to fancy on that evidence as she is raised in class again.

Forecasts

Magic Wand (9/4), Fancy Blue (11/4), Nazeef (10/3), Deirdre (13/2), Queen Power (12/1), One Voice (20/1), Lavender's Blue (40/1)

Verdict

A red hot renewal of this Group One contest Deirdre respected despite this years renewal seemingly a fair bit stronger than the one she won last year. Herself and Magic Wand were not disgraced behind top-class opposition in the Eclipse & have place claims once again. After posting a career-best recently, Nazeef should make a bold bid to keep her winning streak going. However, with stamina to prove she has a mighty task on her hands against the Prix De Diane winner FANCY BLUE who is the choice of Ryan Moore. The selection improved notably for the step up to 1m2f when regaining the winning thread last time & can make the most of the 9lb she receives from her elders.
  1. Fancy Blue
  2. Nazeef
  3. Deirdre
