Yarmouth novice winner (6f, good) in 2017 when with James Tate, but has been reduced to just two more runs. The latest was his debut for this trainer, when beaten 21L and last of 11 on his handicap debut. Can only watch after that.
Four-time AW winner over 5f/6f, but has yet to make the frame in any of his seven attempts on turf. Encouraging that his best turf run was his latest, but more clearly needed here from the same mark.
Listed winner in 2018 and goes best on ground that is good or slower. Back to form recently, having been very competitive at both Haydock (7f) and Ayr (6f), but needs to pull out more back up 1lb.
Multiple sprint winner who goes well on good ground or faster. Scored at Doncaster (6f) last month, when 7lb lower than here, and produced another cracking effort to go close at Bath last time. Contender.
Four-time scorer over 5f who has gone close over this trip. Not as good as he was a couple of years ago, and others look more likely winners based on what he has recently produced. Drops 1lb.
Triple 6f winner, all with 'good' in the going description. 5lb lower than the most recent of those, which came at Haydock 14-months ago. Beaten just 1L from this mark at Catterick last time. Inconsistent but a contender if he can reproduce that.
Prolific winner over 6f-7f and is at his best on a sound or fast surface. Now 9lb lower than his last success, so is being given a real chance by the handicapper, and has a big chance if able to get back to last year's level of form.
Won a Pontefract novice event (6f, good to firm) 14-months ago, but only once came close to that level of form in handicap company later in the season. Changed hands for 20,000gns last October and is worth a market check to gauge confidence.
Both his turf wins have been on heavy ground over 6f, but he does act on a faster surface. Went close at Thirsk last season when 4lb higher, but is inconsistent, so carries risks if siding with him here.
Consistent in defeat, but was second on six successive occasions and then a close third at Kempton (first-time headgear) last time. Has raced only on soft ground on turf, so has several things to prove. Blinkers now go on.
Has picked up the winning habit in the past 10-months, scoring four times over 5f-6f, his turf successes all being on testing ground. Beaten favourite from this mark (still competitive) last time out. More needed, but not ruled out.
Sole win came on AW (5f) last year. Ran well on Tapeta at Newcastle last time out, but has made the frame just once from nine starts on turf, and others press stronger claims.
Has earned all his six wins over 5f on good/fast ground. Now 18lb lower than the most recent of those (2018) but is very hard to fancy on anything he has offered up in three runs this season.
Forecasts
Roundhay Park (4/1), Marvel (9/2), Tabaahy (5/1), Medicine Jack (7/1), Big Lachie (8/1), Look Out Louis (8/1), Quanah (9/1), Fair Alibi (20/1), Lucky Lucky Man (20/1), Excessable (22/1), Firmdecisions (28/1), After John (40/1), Foreseeable Future (80/1)
A tricky race to call and much will depend on how much rain arrives before the off. If it comes, then that will enhance the claims of both Medicine Jack and Lucky Lucky Man, and of that pair the former would be preferred. Quanah continues to hold his form and can’t be dismissed, but it might be worth chancing the well handicapped FIRMDECISIONS, who is thrown on last year’s form, if he can get back to something like it. Look Out Louis and Big Lachie are others with claims.
- Firmdecisions
- Big Lachie
- Medicine Jack
