June 2019 apprentice handicap success at Gowran Park (1m, good; 2-1f) remains sole win in 16 attempts but caught the eye late on when fourth at Killarney last week and might be ready to go close.

Dundalk winner in March over a mile; went close on return to action at Limerick (1m, good; 7-1) last month but lesser efforts since at Tipperary and Gowran Park. Handicapper isn't relenting any.

6-49 record on turf; fair efforts in three starts last month without looking like winning; visor discarded in favour of cheekpieces now and handicapper has dropped him 4lb so may get closer.

Gowran Park winner last month on return to action over 1m1½f, not quite as good either start since from increased rating and probably playing for places at best back up in trip from 7f last time.

Rain Or Shine11

Has got the hang of things with successive wins at Fairyhouse and Dundalk over 7f recently; has another 6lb rise to deal with now but looks capable of better an should be fine over this trip.

12-race maiden was eased right down on seasonal return at Dundalk (7f, AW) recently and even with first-time visor applied here makes little appeal on form having failed to achieve much since joining this yard from Ger Lyons.

Improved form this summer, going close on second start at Tipperary (1m1f, good to yielding; 20-1) and then finishing fourth over this C&D in apprentice contest having perhaps done too much in front. Colin Keane takes over now and is of interest.

C&D winner on reappearance last month, not in the same form either start since however including back here early this month. Place claims at best seemingly.

Has improved in three starts since racing resumed, finishing second at Fairyhouse (7f, good; 11-1) before decent efforts at Limerick and Dundalk. Mare goes up in trip and could be capable of landing a prize like soon.

18-race maiden has shaped with plenty promise in three runs recently, including 3½L seventh behind Lady Savanah here last month; has the potential to be in the mix.

Just 2-41 on turf previously and two years without a win anywhere now; more than 6L behind Rain Or Shine at Dundalk recently on debut for this trainer sporting first-time visor. Can be opposed for now.

34 races and counting, still a maiden. Minor promise on return here over 1m2f last month, but backwards step since at Bellewstown over further and hard to recommend.

13-race maiden finished sixth of 10 behind Rain Or Shine at Fairyhouse (7f, good; 14-1) last month when beaten 6¼L on seasonal bow; perhaps sharper now but must find plenty more to get on the scoresheet.

Some promise in 2018 maidens but handicap mark has plummeted after disappointing time of it last year; missed the break badly on return at Killarney last week in first-time tongue-tie (retained) and must do better.

Made it 0-23 when well fended off in ninth over 7f here last week on third start for latest trainer; best form has come in sprints and questions against her remains strong.

Starting to get the hang of things since switching to handicaps after year off and best effort came when 4L seventh at Cork (7f, good; 25-1) 18 days ago. Needs to build on that now upped in distance.

Forecasts

Rain Or Shine (7/2), Out On Friday (4/1), Tyriana (6/1), Neyland (7/1), The Lady's Bid (7/1), Gatsby Cap (11/1), Lady Savanah (14/1), Kinch (14/1), Guanabara Bay (14/1), Munfallet (18/1), Pedro De Styles (20/1), Havana Breeze (22/1), Olly's Folly (40/1), Stocai Ban (40/1), Straffan (66/1), Basrah Breeze (80/1)

Verdict

The hat-trick seeking Rain Or Shine isn't dismissed readily and has beat some of these rivals in recent successes at Fairyhouse and Dundalk. The step up in trip is no concern, but her latest 6lb hike does pose a question. OUT ON FRIDAY has shaped with promise in all three starts of late and, having perhaps done too much early doors in an apprentice contest over C&D three weeks ago, may open his account from an unchanged mark with Colin Keane's steady hands to help here. Neyland and Munfallet are amongst those with valid place claims.
  1. Out On Friday
  2. Rain Or Shine
  3. Neyland
