Thereabouts in a pair of 6f maidens. Step up to 7f likely to suit as he enters the handicap sphere for the first time. Opening mark doesn't look a gift but the yard are in decent form over the last two weeks (6-38; 16%).
Sole winner in the field and she improved notably from a low-key debut effort to get off the mark at the second attempt when relishing the step up in trip at Beverley (7f; good). Still looked green so should be even more to come.
Shown promise on each start in novice events. Took a slight backwards step when last seen after almost breaking his duck the time before that when second at Redcar (6f; good). Half-brother to 7f/1m winners so should improve for step up in trip.
Hasn't beaten many of her rivals in three career starts, but she wasn't disgraced in a competitive small-field event at Musselburgh (7f; good) when last seen. That was his first attempt at this trip, but she has the most to prove out of these.
Improved markedly on previous efforts to finish third at 66-1 behind Magisterium at Redcar (7f; good to firm). That rival has since boosted the form and there is no reason why this filly can't back that run up entering handicap company.
Steps up to 7f for the first time after racing exclusively over 5f in three career starts. Made headway late on when last seen finishing fifth over 5f at this track, so the switch to this trip could bring about the required improvement.
Progressed from debut effort in warm event to finish third at Thirsk (5f; good to soft) when dropped in trip. Horse who won that race went onto finish third in the Super Sprint at Newbury. Should have a part to play on handicap debut up in trip.
Forecasts
Jigs Princess (2/1), Deep Impression (7/2), Spanish Hustle (9/2), Nortonthorpe Boy (13/2), Emerald Ensign (15/2), Samara Bay (8/1), Fircombe Hall (20/1)
Jigs Princess showed the form of her fifth behind Thunder Of Niagra was no fluke when third on turf debut last time behind a rival who represented himself well in a hot two-year-old race at the weekend. Another one to consider is Emerald Ensign who took a sizeable step forward when upped in trip. That form has since been boosted and she should appreciate the switch to handicaps. However, the safest option looks to be DEEP IMPRESSION. The sole winner in the field, she still looked raw when breaking her duck last month. There should be plenty more to come with the Mark Johnston yard firing on all cylinders at present.
- Deep Impression
- Emerald Ensign
- Jigs Princess
