2-19 over hurdles he's just slid below his last winning mark and into an easier grade than usual having been placed around here. First run for his new yard over C&D looked needed after 20 months off, could do better given the easier task he now has.

Given a prominent ride when failing to match the speed shown by the winner over 4f shorter around here recently finishing a creditable second. That matched the form of his Newton Abbot win (2m6f), unexposed as a stayer, one for the shortlist.

Bumper winner here, she's yet to win over hurdles in eight attempts despite going close on several occasions. Second on return at Newton Abbot (2m6f) when easy to back off 1lb lower (held when making mistake at last), ought to be in the mix.

Gained a welcome win at the age of 10 early last year having not won in over three years when making all at Market Rasen (2m7f) off a 9lb lower mark. Ran well off 7lb higher trying to follow up before falling when last seen, long absence to overcome.

Course bumper winner on debut springing a 14-1 surprise, fairly lightly-raced over hurdles since. Got back on track when third on second handicap start when last seen off this mark over 2m4f, should make an impact if she's ready after an absence.

Completed a hat-trick in the latter half of 2019 winning by a typically narrow margin each time over staying trips nudging up the weights each time. Usually makes the running, longer break than usual to deal with, respected despite career-high mark.

Successful when making all to score at Uttoxeter and Huntingdon over staying trips last autumn off lowly marks. Winning run ended when a below-par favourite (trying for hat-trick), mark on that occasion looked beyond him, faces a stiff task again.

Well held last time on return from four months off having not been in much form earlier in the year often looking rather quirky especially at the start. Losing sequence continues despite a much-reduced mark, needs to show some enthusiasm.

Only win in "jumping sphere" came in a bumper (with Warren Greatrex at the time), failed to progress for that yard over hurdles. Efforts since joining this yard have proved rather dubious, never a threat over C&D (first-time cheekpieces) in March.

Tongue-tie goes first-time for this rather disappointing type who only showed some modest form in bumpers and has yet to make any impact over hurdles. Well held at Uttoxeter (2m4f) last time, stepped up in trip for handicap debut, limited appeal.

First-time cheekpieces added to tongue-tie worn last time for handicap debut at Catterick (3m1f). Unfortunate not to convert that opportunity into a win, inexperience costing him, still unexposed, up 6lb, one to be positive about if market agrees.

Four-time Flat winner but just 1-19 over hurdles and struggling to recover his best form in this sphere the win coming over two years ago. Mixed bag for this yard, looks a hard ride, fell at the final flight when last seen, fails to enthuse.

Forecasts

Can You Believe It (10/3), The Distant Lady (4/1), Prophets Prayer (5/1), Layerthorpe (7/1), Jimmi Chew (17/2), Farmer Boy (9/1), The Black Squirrel (11/1), Ardglass Star (14/1), Scooby (28/1), Moidore (40/1), Inexorable (50/1), Goldslinger (80/1)

Verdict

Fairly standard affair but nonetheless it should be run at fair pace with four-timer seeking Layerthorpe sure to take a prominent position along with Jimmi Chew and Moidore although as a trio they have something to find at the weights. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT has shown some good form this season around here over 2m4f and this increased trip should show him in a better light, he’s unexposed as a stayer. Prophets Prayer can’t be ignored but the most interesting runner is Ardglass Star. Possibly unlucky not to have won his last race the addition of cheekpieces and some further experience make him one to note if the market speaks in his favour.
  1. Can You Believe It
  2. Ardglass Star
  3. Prophets Prayer
