Steady improver as a 3yo for this yard (three-time winner), stepping up in distance, his final win of the year coming at 2m off 5lb lower. Not fully exposed at this trip, ran well over 14.2f last time (found trouble), one of the more likely sorts.
Ended last year in fine style, won back-to-back handicaps at Redcar (14f) and Wolverhampton (16.6f). Improved again on seasonal return taking second in 14.2f handicap at Royal Ascot (Themaxwecan, fourth), travelled well, open to further progress.
Not seen since finishing well held in the 2018 Cesarewitch failing to cap what was a fine season (won three times), has a good strike-rate in handicaps (6-11). Yard always respected with tier Flat runners, huge absence to overcome, market to guide.
Useful staying handicapper, given tough task on return in Northumberland Plate (16.3f), never landed a blow. Better judged on Newmarket 14f effort last time (showed promise, finished well), will appreciate this trip, visor on first-time.
Completed a 2m handicap hat-trick last year when winning the Northumberland Vase, run some fair races since without winning. Still in good heart last time in Northumberland Plate (better than finishing position), still one to be positive about.
On a roll last year when completing a staying handicap five-timer (found for pressure each time), went up 21lb in the weights during that spell. Already a winner this year over 16.2f, failed to fire over 20f last time, still not exposed at this trip.
Looks the lesser of the stables two runners; won over 2m last year (first-time cheekpieces). Shaped like a real stayer this year, went down narrowly to Moon King on return (16.2f) prior to running below-par over 4f further at Royal Ascot, hard ride.
Given a typically busy 3yo campaign (won three times), form gradually tailed away. Back to something like his best over 20f (Ascot Stakes) last time when given plenty to do (got going too late), capable of winning off this mark on that evidence.
Improved for a staying test when taking 2-3 handicaps (end of 2019) at up to 14f. Better than ever this year without winning producing some good efforts in staying handicaps at up to 2m, good second last time, faces a 5lb rise, this asks for more.
Developed nicely as a 3yo, won three handicaps at up to 2m before ending the season with two feeble runs. Yet to regain his spark this year although was hopelessly placed to get involved in Northumberland Plate last time, faces another stiff task.
Progressive in 2019 winning three times at up to 16.3f despite displaying the odd quirk on occasions (can hang). Acquitted himself well on return only giving best to one who has fitness/positional advantage at Kempton, will be suited by this test.

Selino (7/2), Australis (4/1), Rajinsky (5/1), True Destiny (7/1), Moon King (15/2), Themaxwecan (15/2), Just Hubert (9/1), Carnwennan (9/1), Rochester House (11/1), Reshoun (14/1), Just In Time (16/1), Blue Laureate (33/1)
A fascinating renewal with several progressive stayers lining up, most can be given a chance. Roger Charlton trained last year’s winner and he has a fair chance of landing the spoils again via True Destiny who still looks to be on the up after his Kempton return. Typically Mark Johnston fields a strong team in a staying event his pair Themaxwecan and Rochester House both coming here on the back of sound Royal Ascot efforts, neither can be ruled out. SELINO was no match for the winner over 1m6f at Royal Ascot but ran a fine second (Themaxwecan, fourth), a step back to 2m will see him in an even better light. Carnwennan and Reshoun also deserve to be noted in an ultra-competitive heat.

- Carnwennan
