Multiple Flat winner at up to 1m6f, his most recent of those coming in March. Acts on fast ground. Has shown a bit of promise over hurdles, though needs plenty more than we have seen on his last two starts in this code.
Back on a handy mark, but aside from 12L second in a Cartmel novices' contest 14-months ago, there has not been a huge amount of encouragement to be gleaned from his hurdles efforts. Returns from six months off and wind surgery.
0-14 under both codes and has made the frame just once from five previous starts over hurdles. That more encouraging effort came on soft at Warwick in March. Could pick up some prize money, but likely to need improvement to win.
AW winner here over 1m4f and added another AW success at Kempton in February. Yet to convert his Flat ability to this discipline, however, but on a workable mark if he can begin to do so. Interesting.
Exposed gelding who did at least win over hurdles when taking a minor handicap at Uttoxeter (2m, good) this time last year, when 4lb lower. Held since, but if fully wound up for this return, his best efforts would give him a chance.
Multiple AW/Flat winner over 1m2f who also won over hurdles this time last year at Newton Abbot (2m1f, good) when on the same mark as here and with David Pipe. Well held on all four runs for this trainer, so hard to fancy at present.
14-race maiden. Was second over hurdles and a couple of times in chases when trained by David Bridgwater. Back in better form when last seen in a Catterick chase in December, and is thrown in off this mark if he can reproduce that form over hurdles.
Filly who has shown only moderate form in four hurdles starts, her best effort being on heavy ground at Uttoxeter in January. Well held from 3lb higher on her handicap debut when last seen in March. In good hands, but more needed.
Dual hurdles winner at Fontwell (both 2m1½f, good) last summer, the latter when 4lb lower. Also finished 4½L third when 1lb higher at Plumpton later. Has claims on that basis and can go well when fresh. Enters calculations.
7½f Flat winner in 2018 (on good), when with Mick Easterby. Has held his form in that code since joining this trainer, but has plenty more to do over hurdles based on his three previous attempts.
Sole win came in a 3m½f handicap hurdle at Doncaster (good) in 2017, when 13lb higher. Inconsistent since, but ran well when fresh last season when 3L second at Carlisle, so can't write him off.
0-11 in this code, and has yet to pick up any prize money. Impossible to make any sort of a case for him based on what we have seen.
Forecasts
It Can Be Done (4/1), Musical Stardust (5/1), Hurricane Hero (6/1), Finvarra (6/1), Cybalko (15/2), Bartholomew J (10/1), Twpsyn (10/1), Major Snugfit (12/1), Camlad Kingfisher (14/1), Sixties Star (14/1), Grand Enterprise (50/1), Ourmullion (80/1)
As in the first division of this contest, trainer Sam England may be able to exploit what could be a good opportunity with her representative CYBALKO. Admittedly, he has looked better over fences than hurdles so far, but he has a very good opportunity if able to get anywhere near his chasing abilities from this mark. Musical Stardust would perhaps be a more conventional selection, as perhaps would Hurricane Hero or It Can Be Done. Both could get involved, while Sixties Star is not ruled out.
- Cybalko
- Musical Stardust
- Hurricane Hero
